Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya permasalahan keterampilan membaca pemahaman yang seharusnya telah tercapai pada Fase B. Namun, pada kenyataannya masih banyak peserta didik pada Fase B (Kelas IV) yang belum mampu menguasai keterampilan tersebut. Hal itu terjadi karena kegiatan pembelajaran yang terdapat pada modul ajar dan media yang digunakan masih kurang beragam. Maka, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pengembangan rancangan pembelajaran Understanding by Design berbantuan buku cerita bergambar “PISEGI: Piring Sehat dan Bergizi” dalam upaya meningkatkan keterampilan membaca pemahaman teks narasi peserta didik Fase B. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode Design and Development (D&D) dengan model pengembangan ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation). Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas IV Fase B pada salah satu sekolah dasar di Kota Bandung. Hasil validasi pada rancangan pembelajaran Understanding by Design dan buku cerita bergambar “PISEGI: Piring Sehat dan Bergizi” yang dikembangkan diperoleh dari tiga validator. Validasi oleh ahli media mendapatkan persentase 100%. Validasi oleh ahli materi mendapatkan persentase 83,3%. Validasi oleh ahli bahasa mendapatkan persentase 85%. Selanjutnya, berdasarkan hasil implementasi yang dilakukan menunjukan adanya peningkatan rata-rata skor dari 102,4 dengan kategori kurang menjadi 128 dengan kategori baik. Selain itu, hasil uji N-Gain yang dilakukan menunjukan rata-rata skor sebesar 0,5053 dengan kategori sedang. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi rancangan pembelajaran Understanding by Design berbantuan buku cerita bergambar “PISEGI: Piring Sehat dan Bergizi” dapat meningkatkan keterampilan membaca pemahaman teks narasi peserta didik Fase B. This research was driven by the issue of inadequate reading comprehension skills among Phase B students (Grade IV). Ideally, these skills should have been mastered by this stage, yet many learners still struggle to achieve the expected competencies. One of the main causes is the limited variety of learning activities and instructional media included in the existing teaching modules. To address this gap, the study focuses on developing an Understanding by Design (UbD) learning framework supported by the picture storybook “PISEGI: Piring Sehat dan Bergizi.” The objective is to enhance students’ comprehension of narrative texts in Phase B. The study applies a Design and Development (D&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The participants were Grade IV students from an elementary school in Bandung City. Validation of the UbD lesson design and the storybook involved three expert evaluators. Results showed excellent validation scores: media experts rated the product at 100%, material experts at 83.3%, and language experts at 85%. Implementation outcomes demonstrated significant improvements in student performance. The average score increased from 102.4 (categorized as poor) to 128 (categorized as good) after the intervention. Furthermore, the N-Gain test yielded an average of 0.5053, classified as a moderate level of improvement. These findings indicate that integrating the UbD framework with the PISEGI picture storybook is effective in strengthening students’ reading comprehension of narrative texts. Thus, the developed learning design can serve as a valuable instructional innovation for elementary education.
