Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya pemahaman konsep matematis peserta didik pada materi operasi hitung penjumlahan dan pengurangan bilangan cacah. Hal ini disebabkan oleh pembelajaran berfokus pada penyampaian materi oleh guru, dimana peserta didik diberikan penjelasan materi dan latihan soal secara langsung tanpa adanya pendekatan pembelajaran yang membantu peserta didik dalam membangun pemahamannya sendiri dan aktif mengikuti pembelajaran. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui efektivitas pendekatan realistic mathematics education dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep operasi hitung peserta didik fase B sekolah dasar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu pre-eksperimental dengan one group pre-test post-test design. Populasi penelitian ini yaitu Fase B di salah satu SD di Kecamatan Lembang dengan sampel berjumlah 21 peserta didik kelas III sekolah dasar. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu instrumen tes berbentuk soal uraian sebanyak 8 butir soal. Analisis data yang digunakan yaitu uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, uji paired sample t-test, dan uji perbedaan terhadap skor N-Gain. Hasil penelitian menunjukan skor rata-rata yang diperoleh peserta didik meningkat dari 51,14 pada pre-test menjadi 86,19 pada post-test. Hal ini sesuai dengan uji paired sample t-test sebesar <0,001 < 0,05 (taraf signifikansi), sehingga menunjukkan adanya perbedaan rata-rata yang signifikan dari penerapan pendekatan realistic mathematics education dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep operasi hitung peserta didik. Selain itu, peningkatan pemahaman konsep operasi hitung juga dibuktikan dengan hasil uji perbedaan terhadap skor N-Gain dengan memperoleh skor rata-rata sebesar 72,38%. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan pendekatan realistic mathematics education berada pada kategori tinggi dan cukup efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep operasi hitung peserta didik. This research is motivated by the low of conceptual understanding of mathematical operations, specifically addition and subtraction of whole numbers, among elementary school students. This issue arises due to teacher-centered learning, where students are directly given material explanations and practice questions without the use of instructional approaches that support students in constructing their own understanding and engaging actively in the learning process. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the Realistic Mathematics Education approach in improving the conceptual understanding of arithmetic operations among phase B elementary students. The research employed a pre�-experimental method with a one-group pre-test post-test design. The population in this study was phase B student in one of the elementary school in Lembang district with a sample of 21 third-grade students of elementary school. The research instrument was an essay-type test comprising 8 questions. Data were analyzed using normality test, homogeneity test, paired sample t-test, and N-Gain score analysis. The results showed an increase in students’ average score from 51.14 (pre-test) to 86.19 (post-test). The paired sample t-test result yielded a significance value of <0.001 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference in average scores after implementing the RME approach. Additionally, the improvement in conceptual understanding was supported by the N-Gain score analysis, with an average gain score of 72,38%, placing it in the high category. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Realistic Mathematics Education approach is quite effective in improving students’ conceptual understanding of arithmetic operations.
