    Abstract

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media membaca permulaan (MP) menggunakan metode fonik sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa sekolah dasar. Permasalahan yang melatarbelakangi penelitian ini adalah masih banyak siswa sekolah dasar yang mengalami kesulitan dalam mengenal huruf, merangkai suku kata, dan membaca kata sederhana sehingga berdampak pada keterlambatan penguasaan membaca permulaan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Design and Development (D&D) yang meliputi empat tahapan yaitu analisis, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Pada tahap pengembangan, media MP dirancang melalui serangkaian proses, mulai dari penyusunan materi pembelajaran, storyboard, hingga pembuatan produk media secara menyeluruh. Uji coba terbatas dilakukan pada siswa kelas IC SDN di Dago dan kelas ID SDN di Jatihandap dengan melibatkan 14 siswa yang belum mahir dalam membaca. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media MP menggunakan metode fonik memiliki kelayakan sangat tinggi dengan penilaian dari ahli media, ahli materi, guru, dan siswa yang seluruhnya termasuk dalam kategori “sangat layak” untuk diimplementasikan. Selain itu, hasil post-test menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan dalam kategori “baik sekali” didukung oleh hasil uji paired samples t-test yang menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan secara statistik, serta perolehan nilai n-gain yang termasuk dalam kategori “efektif”. Dengan demikian, media MP menggunakan metode fonik ini dinyatakan valid, praktis, dan efektif serta dapat dijadikan alternatif inovatif dalam pembelajaran membaca di jenjang sekolah dasar. This study aims to develop early reading media using the phonics method as an effort to improve the early reading skills of elementary school students. The problem behind this study is that many elementary school students still have difficulty recognizing letters, stringing syllables together, and reading simple words, which results in delays in mastering early reading. The research method used was Design and Development (D&D), which consisted of four stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. In the development stage, the MP media was designed through a series of processes, starting from the preparation of learning materials and storyboards to the creation of the final media product. Limited trials were conducted on students in class IC of SDN in Dago and class ID of SDN in Jatihandap, involving 14 students who were not yet proficient in reading. The results showed that the MP media using the phonics method was highly feasible, with assessments from media experts, material experts, teachers, and students all falling into the “highly feasible” category for implementation. In addition, the post-test results showed an improvement in early reading skills in the “very good” category, supported by the results of the paired samples t-test, which showed a statistically significant improvement, as well as n-gain scores that fell into the “effective” category. Thus, MP media using the phonics method is declared valid, practical, and effective and can be used as an innovative alternative in reading instruction at the elementary school level.
