    Abstract

------- One of the problems experienced by first-grade students is their low mastery of early reading skills, particularly in the fluent reading stage in the second semester. This is due to students' low interest in reading and the ineffectiveness of teaching methods, which are caused by the use of inappropriate teaching models. Efforts that can be made include selecting a learning model that can develop fluent reading skills, such as using a multisensory learning model with the aid of multisensory texts. The texts are equipped with diverse sensory stimuli involving the senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the multisensory learning model and the guided reading model on students' fluent reading skills, as well as to identify differences in fluent reading skills between elementary school students using the multisensory learning model and those using the guided reading model. This study employs a quasi-experimental design of the Matching-Only Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 25 first-grade students from Sapan 1 Public Elementary School and 23 students from Cipamokolan 4 Public Elementary School. The results of the study in the experimental class showed an improvement after students were given treatment using the multisensory learning model. This shows that the multisensory learning model has an effect on the development of students' fluent reading skills. In the control class, there was an improvement after students were given treatment using the guided reading model. This indicates that the guided reading model has an impact on the development of students' fluent reading skills. Additionally, there was no significant difference between the fluent reading skills of students using the multisensory learning model and those using the guided reading model. Thus, both models can be used according to the needs and characteristics of the students.
