Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving the understanding of multiplication operation concepts among Phase B students. This research is based on the main issue in elementary mathematics learning is the low understanding of basic concepts such as multiplication. The PjBL model was chosen because it actively involves students in the learning process through contextual and collaborative projects. This research uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, specifically the one-group pretest-post-test type. The population in this study consisted of Phase B students in Cimahi City, with a sample size of 25 students. The instrument used was a conceptual understanding test given before and after the treatment. The results showed a significant increase in conceptual understanding scores after the implementation of the PjBL model. This is evidenced by the difference in average pretest and post-test scores, as well as the N-gain analysis results, which fell into the medium to high category. Therefore, the Project Based Learning model is proven to be effective in improving the understanding of multiplication operation concepts among Phase B students. This study recommends the use of the PjBL model as an innovative alternative in mathematics learning in elementary schools.
