Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas metode read aloud dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan anak usia dini di TK Nasywa dan TK Duta Firdaus. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan pre-eksperimental desain one group pre-test-post-test. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 20 anak kelompok B dari dua TK yang berbeda, masing-masing 10 anak. Data dikumpulkan melalui pre-test dan post-test yang mencakup indikator kemampuan membaca permulaan, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji paired sample t-test dan Cohen’s d. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan secara signifikan setelah diterapkan metode read aloud. Peningkatan ini terlihat dari hasil rata-rata post-test yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan pre-test, serta didukung oleh hasil uji statistik yang menunjukkan nilai signifikansi 0,002 < 0,05 dan 0,003 < 0,05 di TK Duta Firdaus. Metode read aloud juga terbukti konsisten dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan anak yang dibuktikan dengan hasil uji cohen d > 1.00 sehingga termasuk pada kategori efek kuat. Dengan demikian, metode read aloud terbukti efektif dan konsisten dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan anak usia dini. Peneliti berharap peneliti selanjutnya dapat melakukan penelitian dengan rentang waktu yang lebih panjang dan jangkauan objek penelitian yang lebih luas agar hasil mengenai efektivitas metode read aloud ini dapat semakin kuat dan valid. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the read-aloud method in improving early reading skills among young children at TK Nasywa and TK Duta Firdaus. The research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test design. The subjects consisted of 20 children from group B at two different kindergartens, with 10 children from each school. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests that measured indicators of early reading ability, and were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and Cohen’s d. The results showed a significant improvement in early reading skills after the implementation of the read-aloud method. This improvement was evident from the higher average post-test scores compared to the pre-test scores, supported by statistical test results showing significance values of 0.002 < 0.05 and 0.003 < 0.05 at TK Duta Firdaus. The read-aloud method was also proven to be consistently effective, as indicated by Cohen’s d values greater than 1.00, which fall into the strong effect category. Therefore, the read-aloud method is proven to be both effective and consistent in enhancing early reading abilities in young children. The researcher recommends that future studies extend the duration and broaden the scope of participants to further strengthen and validate findings on the effectiveness of the read-aloud method.
