Abstract
Kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa Indonesia masih tergolong rendah, sebagaimana tercermin dari hasil PISA dan beberapa penelitian terdahulu yang menunjukkan keterbatasan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal pola bilangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan profil kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) dalam menyelesaikan soal pola bilangan ditinjau dari Zone of Proximal Development. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari tiga siswa yang dipilih berdasarkan kemampuan akademik tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Data diperoleh melalui tes penalaran matematis, wawancara dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan aktual siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal pola bilangan berbeda-beda berdasarkan tingkat kemampuan akademik. Siswa dengan kemampuan tinggi dan sedang cenderung menggunakan pembuktian rumus, tanpa analisis mendalam terhadap pola bilangan yang diberikan dan tidak disertai upaya untuk memverifikasi atau memperbaiki rumus yang digunakan. Siswa dengan kemampuan akademik rendah menyelesaikan soal berdasarkan asumsi semata tanpa melakukan analisis terlebih dahulu terhadap pola bilangan yang diberikan. Pada soal nomor 2 dan 3, ketiga siswa mampu menemukan pola atau sifat dari gejala matematis untuk membuat generalisasi. Siswa mampu memperkirakan jawaban dan proses solusi meskipun dilakukan melalui langkah-langkah penjumlahan secara bertahap. Setelah mendapatkan scaffolding, seluruh siswa menunjukkan perkembangan dalam kemampuan penalaran. Siswa mampu mengidentifikasi pola, membuat generalisasi, memperkirakan jawaban dan menarik kesimpulan dengan baik. Kesulitan utama siswa meliputi ketidakmampuan mengidentifikasi pola dan keteraturan serta merumuskan pola suku ke-n berdasarkan pola yang diamati. Scaffolding diberikan secara bertahap melalui pertanyaan pemandu, contoh konkret dan panduan langkah-langkah penyelesaian.; Indonesian students' mathematical reasoning skills are still relatively low, as reflected in the PISA results and several previous studies that highlight students' difficulties in solving number pattern problems. This study aims to describe the profile of junior high school students' mathematical reasoning ability in solving number pattern problems based on the Zone of Proximal Development. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research subjects consist of three students selected based on high, medium, and low academic abilities. Data are collected through mathematical reasoning tests, interviews, and observations. The results show that students’ actual abilities in solving number pattern problems vary based on their academic levels. High- and medium-ability students tend to use formula-based proofs without conducting in-depth analysis of the given number patterns and without making any effort to verify or improve the formulas they use. Low-ability students solve problems based on assumptions alone without analyzing the given number patterns beforehand. In problems 2 and 3, all three students find patterns or properties of mathematical phenomena to make generalizations. They estimate answers and outline solution processes, although they do so through gradual addition steps. After receiving scaffolding, all students show progress in their reasoning abilities. They identify patterns, make generalizations, estimate answers, and draw conclusions effectively. The main difficulties students face include the inability to identify patterns and regularities and to formulate the nth-term formula based on observed patterns. Scaffolding is provided gradually through guiding questions, concrete examples, and step-by-step solution guidance.
