Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya minat baca siswa, dan kurangnya program-program di perpustakaan sekolah yang inovatif, seperti program storytelling. Dilakukannya program storytelling bertujuan untuk meningkatkan minat baca siswa. Penelitian ini menganalisis korelasi antara program storytelling dengan minat baca siswa di Perpustakaan SMPN 9 Kota Bekasi. Secara khusus, penelitian ini juga membahas tentang; (1) Hubungan antara persiapan sebelum storytelling dengan minat baca siswa; (2) Hubungan antara penyampaian pada saat storytelling dengan minat baca siswa; (3) Hubungan antara penutup saat berakhir storytelling dengan minat baca siswa. Metode penelitian kuantitatif dipilih untuk menjawab permasalahan penelitian ini. Populasi dan sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMPN 9 Kota Bekasi. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 82 siswa yang dipilih secara acak. Analisis data menggunakan uji korelasi Rank Spearman. Secara umum, penelitian ini berhasil membuktikan adanya korelasi yang kuat antara program storytelling dengan minat baca siswa. Secara khusus, penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa; (1) Adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara persiapan sebelum storytelling dengan minat baca siswa, menghasilkan tingkat korelasi yang sedang; (2) Adanya hubungan antara penyampaian pada saat storytelling dengan minat baca siswa, menghasilkan tingkat korelasi yang sedang; (3) Adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara penutup berakhir storytelling dengan minat baca siswa, dan menghasilkan tingkat korelasi yang sedang. Berjalannya program storytelling di Perpustakaan SMPN 9 Kota Bekasi dengan baik tentu saja berhubungan dengan meningkatnya minat baca siswa. This study was motivated by the low interest in reading of students, and the lack of innovative school library programs, such as storytelling programs. The storytelling program aims to increase student’s interest in reading. This study analyzes the correlation between the storytelling program and student’s reading interest at SMPN 9 Bekasi City. Specifically, this study also discusses; (1) The relationship between preparation before storytelling with student’s reading interest; (2) The relationship between delivery during storytelling with student’s reading interest; (3) The relationship between closing at the end of storytelling with student’s reading interest. The quantitative research method was chosen to answer this research problem. The population and samples used in this study were students in grade VIII of SMPN 9 Bekasi City. The research sample consisted of 82 students who were randomly selected. Data analysis used the Spearman Rank correlation test. In general, this study succeeded in proving the existence of a strong correlation between the storytelling program and student’s reading interest. Specifically, this study revealed that; (1) There is a significant relationship between preparation before storytelling and student’s reading interest and resulted in a moderate level of correlation; (2) There is a relationship between delivery during storytelling and student’s reading interest and resulted in a moderate level of correlation; (3) There is a significant relationship between closing the end of storytelling with student’s reading interest, and resulted in a moderate level of correlation. The increase in students' interest in reading at SMPN 9 Bekasi City is certainly related to the high enthusiasm of students to participate in the storytelling program.
