Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi penerapan merdeka bermain di PAUD dalam mengembangkan student agency anak usia dini. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Penelitian dilakukan selama dua bulan dengan melibatkan partisipan sebanyak 4 orang guru dan 6 orang siswa dari dua lembaga PAUD, yakni salah satu TK Islam Terpadu dan TK Negeri di Kabupaten Subang. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Data-data yang telah terhimpun dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis data interaktif yang diperkenalkan oleh Miles dan Huberman. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti mengadopsi perspektif determinasi diri dan teori sosial kognitif Bandura. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan konsep merdeka bermain di lingkungan PAUD memicu pengembangan student agency. Anak-anak terbiasa berlatih mandiri, mengambil keputusan, serta mengembangkan kemampuan sosial, memecahkan masalah, dan penerimaan terhadap pendapat orang lain. Merdeka bermain menjadi wadah di mana anak-anak belajar bertanggung jawab terhadap pilihan-pilihan mereka melalui otonomi yang diberikan, sehingga mengasah kompetensi yang dimiliki. Meskipun demikian, masih terdapat hambatan seperti kurangnya literasi, keterbatasan fasilitas, serta wawasan dan pengalaman belajar yang masih perlu dieksplorasi lebih mendalam. Para guru terus berupaya menjadi model terbaik dalam penerapan merdeka bermain, serta menyesuaikan ekspektasi mereka dengan beragam kemampuan setiap anak. Temuan dalam penelitian ini memberikan wawasan tentang penerapan konsep merdeka bermain dalam pembelajaran anak usia dini untuk meningkatkan student agency. Implikasi dari penelitian ini dapat menjadi landasan bagi guru dan lembaga PAUD untuk meningkatkan strategi pembelajaran yang mengintegrasikan merdeka bermain guna mengoptimalkan student agency anak usia dini. Kata kunci: Student agency, merdeka bermain, kemandirian, eksplorasi. This research aims to explore the implementation of free play in early childhood education (ECE) in developing student agency. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. The research was conducted for two months involving 4 teachers and 6 students from two ECE institutions, namely one of integrated Islamic Kindergartens and State Kindergarten in Subang Regency. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation studies. The data that has been collected is analyzed using interactive data analysis techniques introduced by Miles and Huberman. In this research, researchers adopted a self-determination perspective and Bandura's social cognitive theory. The research results show that the application of the concept of free play in the ECE environment triggers the development of student agency. Children are accustomed to practicing independence, making decisions, and developing social skills, problem-solving, and acceptance of other people's opinions. Free play becomes a forum where children learn to be responsible for their choices through the autonomy they are given, thereby honing their competencies. However, there are still obstacles such as lack of literacy, limited facilities, as well as insights and learning experiences that still need to be explored in more depth. Teachers continue to strive to be the best models in implementing free play and adapt their expectations to the varying abilities of each child. The findings in this research provide insight into the application of the concept of free play in early childhood learning to increase student agency. The implications of this research can be a basis for teachers and ECE institutions to improve learning strategies that integrate free play to optimize early childhood student agency.
