Abstract
Kemampuan menyelesaikan masalah merupakan salah satu tujuan utama dalam pembelajaran matematika, yang menekankan pada penggunaan metode, prosedur, dan strategi yang sistematis dan terbukti benar. Setiap siswa memiliki kecenderungan gaya belajar yang berbeda, yang mempengaruhi cara mereka mengasimilasi dan mengolah informasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa SMP, kecenderungan gaya belajar mereka, serta bagaimana kemampuan ini dikelompokkan berdasarkan ragam kecenderungan gaya belajar. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif, melibatkan siswa kelas VIII di sebuah SMP di Kota Bandung yang telah mempelajari topik barisan aritmatika. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis, angket gaya belajar, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara keseluruhan, kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa termasuk dalam kategori sedang, dengan mayoritas siswa memiliki kecenderungan gaya belajar auditorial. Subjek dengan gaya belajar visual tinggi memenuhi tiga dari empat indikator kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis, sementara subjek visual sedang memenuhi dua indikator, dan subjek visual rendah hanya memenuhi satu indikator. Subjek auditorial tinggi juga memenuhi tiga dari empat indikator, sedangkan subjek auditorial sedang memenuhi satu hingga dua indikator, dan subjek auditorial rendah belum mampu memenuhi satupun indikator. Subjek kinestetik tinggi mampu memenuhi tiga dari empat indikator, subjek kinestetik sedang mampu memenuhi satu indikator, sementara subjek kinestetik rendah belum mampu memenuhi satupun indikator tersebut. The ability to solve problems is one of the main objectives in mathematics education, emphasizing the use of systematic and proven methods, procedures, and strategies. Students' problem-solving abilities are directly related to how they perceive the information given by the teacher, including their learning style preferences. This study aims to describe the mathematical problem-solving abilities of middle school students, their learning style tendencies, and how these abilities are categorized based on different learning style preferences. The method used is a case study with a qualitative approach, involving eighth-grade students at a middle school in Bandung who have studied arithmetic sequences. Data were collected through a mathematical problem-solving test, a learning style questionnaire, and interviews. The results show that, overall, students' mathematical problem-solving abilities fall into the medium category, with most students exhibiting an auditory learning style preference. Subjects with a high visual learning style met three out of four indicators of mathematical problem-solving ability, while medium visual learners met two indicators, and low visual learners met only one indicator. High auditory learners also met three out of four indicators, whereas medium auditory learners met one to two indicators, and low auditory learners did not meet any indicators. High kinesthetic learners were able to meet three out of four indicators, medium kinesthetic learners met one indicator, while low kinesthetic learners did not meet any indicators.
