Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah kontekstual berdasarkan beberapa indikator komunikasi matematis tertulis, mendeskripsikan daya juang siswa, serta mendeskripsikan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP kelas VII yang memiliki daya juang tinggi, rendah, dan sedang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII di salah satu SMP Negeri di Kota Bandung yang melibatkan 7 siswa dari 27 siswa yang telah mempelajari materi bangun ruang sisi datar. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis, angket daya juang produktif, dan pedoman wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang ditemukan mayoritas berada pada kategori sedang. Selain itu, daya juang produktif yang ditemukan umumnya juga berada pada kategori sedang yang meliputi aspek bertanya, mendorong, memberikan waktu, dan bertahan. Kesimpulannya ialah daya juang produktif tinggi, sedang, dan rendah umumnya terdapat pada setiap individu yang memiliki ketegori kemampuan komunikasi tinggi, sedang, dan rendah, kecuali daya juang produktif rendah tidak ada pada siswa yang berkemampuan komunikasi matematis tinggi dan daya juang produktif tinggi tidak ada pada siswa yang berkemampuan komunikasi matematis rendah. This study aims to describe students' mathematical communication abilities in solving contextual problems based on several indicators of written mathematical communication, to delineate students' productive struggle, and to characterize the mathematical communication abilities of seventh-grade junior high school students with high, moderate, and low levels of productive struggle. The research utilized a case study method with a qualitative approach. The subjects were seventh-grade students from a public junior high school in Bandung, involving 7 out of 27 students who had studied the topic of flat-sided spatial figures. Data collection techniques included tests of mathematical communication ability, a productive struggle questionnaire, and interview guidelines. The findings indicate that the majority of students demonstrated moderate mathematical communication abilities. Additionally, the productive struggle observed generally fell within the moderate category, encompassing aspects such as questioning, encouragement, time allocation, and persistence. In conclusion, high, moderate, and low levels of productive struggle typically coexist with high, moderate, and low categories of mathematical communication ability, except for low productive struggle, which was absent among students with high mathematical communication abilities, and high productive struggle, which was absent among students with low mathematical communication abilities.
