Abstract

Computational thinking is an important competency for students because it trains the brain to get used to thinking logically, structured, and creatively. Computational thinking ability is the ability of students to find solutions to a problem that is done with computational principles, namely decomposition, pattern recognition, algorithmic thinking, as well as abstraction and generalization. Computational Thinking (CT) is the process of thinking in solving problems by identifying patterns, organizing and creating a series of steps to provide solutions, so that those solutions can be represented. Self-efficacy is one of the psychological aspects that has a significant influence on student success in completing tasks and problem-solving questions. This study aims to describe the computational thinking ability of junior high school students on linear function material in terms of self-efficacy. The method used is a qualitative approach with a case study method. The subjects of this study were 6 grade VIII students in one of the public junior high schools in Bandung City, consisting of 2 students with high self-efficacy, 2 students with moderate self-efficacy, and 2 students with low self-efficacy. This research data was taken through computational thinking ability tests, self-efficacy questionnaires, and interviews. The results showed that: (i) students with high self-efficacy achieved all skills on computational thinking abilities, namely decomposition, pattern recognition, algorithmic thinking, as well as abstraction and generalization; (ii) Students with moderate self-efficacy achieve computational thinking skills in pattern recognition, algorithmic thinking, and abtraction and generalization. But on decomposition skills have not been fully achieved well; (iii) Students with low self-efficacy achieve computational thinking skills in pattern recognition skills but have not achieved decomposition skills, algorithmic thinking, and abstraction and generalization. Keywords : computational thinking, self-efficacy.
