Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilatarbelakakangi banyaknya siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam membaca permulaan. Kesulitan membaca ini terjadi karena siswa belum memiliki kesiapan membaca (reading readiness) yang baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan karakteristik dan faktor pendukung dan penghambat pembelajaran membaca permulaan serta mendeskripsikan karakteristik reading readiness dan kesulitan membaca permulaan ditinjau dalam perspektif reading readiness di kelas rendah sekolah dasar. Menggunakan metode studi kasus, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi kesulitan membaca permulaan yang dialami siswa bila ditinjau dalam perspektif reading readiness. Subjek penelitian adalah 6 siswa dan 3 guru kelas rendah di 3 sekolah dasar Kota Bandung. Dengan menggunakan instrumen observasi wawancara dan dokumentasi, data penelitian diolah menggunakan metode Miles & Hubberman (2014). Data yang sudah direduksi kemudian dikemas dengan teori membaca permulaan dan reading readiness menurut para ahli dan penelitian terdahulu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik pembelajarann membaca permulaan di kelas rendah sekolah dasar adalah guru harus memperhatikan kesiapan siswa sebelum pembelajaran di mulai. Baik dari pengkondisian kelas yang aman nyaman maupun yang berpihak pada peserta didik. Untuk menciptakan kesiapan membaca permulaan yang baik dibutuhkan materi, metode, media, bahan ajar, dan pengalaman guru dalam pengajaran membaca permulaan. Faktor pendukung dan penghambat pembelajaran membaca permulaan adalah sarana dan prasarana, motivasi belajar, penggunaan metode, media dan bahan ajar, dukungan dan dorongan dari guru dan orangtua. Karakteristik reading readiness di kelas rendah sekolah dasar adalah kondisi di mana kemampuan anak telah sesuai dengan kemampuan yang diperlukan untuk melakukan aktivitas membaca permulaan. Reading readiness terdiri dari beberapa faktor penyokong yakni kesiapan fisik, kesiapan perseptual, kesiapan kognitif, kesiapan linguistik, kesiapan afektif, dan kesiapan lingkungan/eksperimental. Kesulitan membaca permulaan ditinjau dari perspektif reading readiness di kelas rendah sekolah dasar adalah adalah kesulitan mengeja huruf menjadi suku kata, belum mengenal huruf diftong dan digraf, belum bisa membaca kata demi kata, serta siswa terlihat tidak percaya diri dengan kemampuan membacanya. Kata Kunci: Kesulitan Membaca Perrmulaan, Reading Readiness, Bahasa Indonesia. ABSTRACT This research is motivated by the large number of students who experience difficulties in beginning reading. This reading difficulty occurs because students do not yet have good reading readiness. This study aims to describe the characteristics and factors that support and inhibit early reading learning as well as describe the characteristics of reading readiness and initial reading difficulties reviewed from the perspective of reading readiness in the lower grades of elementary school. Using the case study method, this study explores students' initial reading difficulties when viewed from a reading readiness perspective. The research subjects were 6 students and 3 low grade teachers in 3 elementary schools in Bandung. By using observation interviews and documentation instruments, the research data was processed using the Miles & Hubberman (2014) method. The reduced data is then packaged with the theory of reading initiation and reading readiness according to experts and previous research. The results of the study showed that the characteristics of learning to read at the beginning in the lower grades of elementary schools was that the teacher had to pay attention to the readiness of students before learning began. Both from classroom conditioning that is safe and comfortable and in favor of students. To create good initial reading readiness, materials, methods, media, teaching materials, and teacher experience are needed in teaching beginning reading. Factors supporting and inhibiting early reading learning are facilities and infrastructure, learning motivation, use of methods, media and teaching materials, support and encouragement from teachers and parents. The characteristic of reading readiness in the lower grades of elementary school is a condition in which the child's abilities are in accordance with the abilities needed to carry out initial reading activities. Reading readiness consists of several supporting factors, namely physical readiness, perceptual readiness, cognitive readiness, linguistic readiness, affective readiness, and environmental/experimental readiness. Beginning reading difficulties viewed from the perspective of reading readiness in the lower grades of elementary school are difficulties in spelling letters into syllables, not knowing diphthongs and digraphs, not being able to read word for word, and students not feeling confident in their reading abilities.
