    Abstract

    This study is entitled “Students’ Grammatical Errors Analysis in Writing English Composition (A Case Study in Class XI of SMK BPP Bandung).” This study aimed to investigate the students’ grammatical errors in writing English composition of past experience and the causes of the students’ grammatical errors.

    This study involved 21 students as the population in class XI of SMK BPP Bandung. However, 13 students were chosen as the sample. This study used a descriptive method. Writing test and interview were employed to obtain the data, which were then classified and analyzed.

    The result of the study indicated that there were fifteen grammatical errors faced by the students in writing English composition of past experience. Those were subjects, nouns, verbs, tenses, subject and verb, verb agreement, pronouns, possessive pronouns, modals, word order, prepositions, articles, plural, parallelism and reported speech The factors causing the students’ grammatical errors were the influence of native language and the application of English rules and the teaching strategies employed by the teacher.

    The study suggests that the teacher should help the students to improve their writing ability.
