Abstract
Health in the reproductive system is crucial for adolescents, including those with mental retardation. Despite the intellectual limitations faced by individuals with mental retardation, they require self-reliance in managing their personal needs, particularly in maintaining reproductive hygiene. An intervention is needed to promote self-sufficiency in the personal genital hygiene of individuals with mental retardation. One alternative behavior modification technique that can be applied to improve self-reliance of individuals with mental retardation is shaping. This study aims to improve the personal genital hygiene independence of students with moderate mental retardation at SLB Satria Galdin. The method employed is Single Subject Research with an A-B-A design. Performance tests were conducted to collect data, using a test instrument. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and presented in simple line graphs. The results of this study indicate an increase in the students' independence in personal genital hygiene skills, as evidenced by the increase in mean levels during the Baseline 1 (A-1) condition at 54.10%, the Intervention (B) at 62.70%, and Baseline 2 (A-2) at 78.70%. The findings of this research demonstrate an improvement in the subjects' independence in personal genital hygiene skills.
