Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang direpresentasikan dari hasil belajar siswa SMA Negeri 1 Padalarang Tahun 2022/2023. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki dampak pembelajaran berbasis masalah melalui metode debat terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada mata pelajaran ekonomi, konsentrasi materi perdagangan internasional di SMA Negeri 1 Padalarang. Metode penelitian non-equivalent control group design digunakan, dengan kelas XI IPS 3 sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas XI IPS 4 sebagai kelas eksperimen. Instrumen penelitian ini berupa tes uraian berjumlah 15 soal yang disusun berdasarkan pedoman kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Hipotesis diuji menggunakan uji t (paired sample t-test dan independent sample t-test). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada kelas eksperimen antara sebelum dan setelah diberi perlakuan model pembelajaran berbasis masalah melalui metode debat. Terdapat perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada kelompok kontrol antara sebelum dan setelah melalui pembelajaran dengan metode curah pendapat. Terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Kelas eksperimen menunjukkan peningkatan sedang, sementara kelompok kontrol menunjukkan peningkatan yang lebih rendah. Berdasarkan analisis Gain-T yang telah dilakukan dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran berbasis masalah melalui metode debat efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada pelajaran ekonomi, khususnya materi perdagangan internasional. This study was motivated by the low level of students' critical thinking skills, as represented by their learning outcomes at SMA Negeri 1 Padalarang in the academic year 2022/2023. This research aimed to investigate the impact of problem-based learning through the debate method on students' critical thinking skills in the subject of economics, specifically focusing on the topic of international trade at SMA Negeri 1 Padalarang. The non-equivalent control group design was employed, with class XI IPS 3 as the control group and class XI IPS 4 as the experimental group. The research instrument consisted of a 15-item essay test designed based on guidelines for assessing students' critical thinking skills. Hypotheses were tested using t-tests (paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test). The results of the study showed that: There was an increase in the critical thinking skills of students in the experimental group before and after being exposed to problem-based learning through the debate method. There was a difference in the critical thinking skills of students in the control group before and after undergoing learning with the brainstorming method. There was a difference increase in the critical thinking skills between the experimental and control groups. The experimental group showed moderate improvement, while the control group showed lower improvement. Based on the N-Gain analysis, it can be concluded that problem-based learning through the debate method is effective in enhancing students' critical thinking skills in economics, particularly in the context of international trade.
