Abstract

Salah satu kemampuan yang harus dimiliki oleh siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) adalah kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Akan tetapi, fakta di lapangan menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP pada topik kubus dan balok belum sesuai dengan harapan. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan komunikasi matematis siswa adalah melalui model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning (PBL). Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui proses implementasi model PBL dalam meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dan untuk mengetahui apakah peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP yang mendapat model pembelajaran PBL lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan siswa SMP yang mendapat model pembelajaran konvensional, serta untuk mengetahui respons siswa terhadap penerapan model pembelajaran PBL. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode quasi�experimental dengan desain penelitian non-equivalent control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII di SMPN 29 Bandung, sedangkan sampel yang terpilih adalah dua kelas dari populasi. Pembelajaran di kelas eksperimen menggunakan model pembelajaran PBL, sedangkan kelas kontrol menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional. Instrumen dalam penelitian meliputi tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis, kuesioner respons siswa terhadap model pembelajaran PBL, dan lembar observasi implementasi model pembelajaran PBL. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP yang mendapat model pembelajaran PBL lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan siswa SMP yang mendapat model pembelajaran konvensional. Sementara itu, hasil pengolahan kuesioner menunjukkan hampir seluruh siswa memberikan respons positif terhadap model pembelajaran PBL.; One of the skills that Junior High School (JHS) students must have is mathematical communication skills. However, the facts in the field show that the mathematical communication skills of JHS students on the topic of cubes and cuboids are not as expected. One of the efforts that can be made to improve students' mathematical communication is through the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation process of the PBL model in improving students' mathematical communication skills and to find out whether the improvement of mathematical communication skills of JHS students who received the PBL learning model is higher than JHS students who received the conventional learning model, as well as to find out students' responses to the application of PBL learning model. The research method used was quasi-experimental method with non-equivalent control group design. The population in this research were VIII grade students in SMPN 29 Bandung, while the selected samples were two classes from the population. Learning in the experimental class used PBL model, while the control class used conventional learning. The instruments in the research include mathematical communication ability test, student response questionnaire to PBL model, and PBL model implementation observation sheet. The results showed that the improvement of mathematical communication skills of JHS students who received PBL model was higher than JHS students who received conventional learning model. Meanwhile, the results of questionnaire processing showed that almost all students gave positive responses to the PBL model.
