Abstract

Studi mengenai pembekalan materi IPBA dan penanaman karakter diri pada mahasiswa calon guru SMP dilakukan melalui pengembangan dan implementasi perkuliahan IPBA Terintegrasi yang mengakomodasi Kecerdasan Majemuk (IT-KM). Hal ini dilatarbelakangi oleh cakupan Ilmu Bumi dan Antariksa yang sering dipersepsi menjadi dua materi kebumian dan keantariksaan yang diberikan secara terpisah sehingga pengetahuan siswa tidak utuh dan tidak bermakna. Pendekatan Research and Development model 4-D digunakan untuk mengembangkan program perkuliahan IT-KM. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi tes kemampuan IPBA terpadu, penilaian karakter (peer assessment) dan angket (self assessment) kecerdasan majemuk. Sejumlah (n=51) mahasiswa calon guru di Jurusan Pendidikan Fisika yang mengontrak mata kuliah IPBA tahun akademik 2011/2012 terlibat sebagai subyek penelitian dalam kelas eksperimen (n1=25) dengan menggunakan perkuliahan IT-KM dan kelas kontrol (n2=26) dengan memisahkan materi kebumian dan astronomi dan mengakomodasi pula kecerdasan majemuk. Program Perkuliahan IT-KM memadukan antara materi Astronomi dan Bumi yang lebih rinci yaitu dalam aspek: Fisika, Biologi, Kimia, Geologi, Geografi, Klimatologi, Oseanografi, Meteorologi, Astronomi, dan Lingkungan (environment), dan mengakomodasi berbagai kecerdasan majemuk selama perkuliahan, serta menanamkan karakter diri mahasiswa. Program perkuliahan IT-KM yang dirancang dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep IPBA terpadu calon guru IPBA di SMP dan menanamkan karakter diri mahasiswa. Peningkatan penguasaan konsep IPBA terpadu yang mendapatkan IT-KM lebih tinggi secara signifikan pada tingkat kepercayaan 95% dibanding dengan kelas kontrol. Peningkatan penguasaan konsep untuk setiap kecerdasan majemuk memperoleh hasil yang tidak berbeda secara signifikan. Berarti program IT-KM berhasil mengakomodasi perbedaan kecerdasan majemuk. Selain itu program IT-KM dapat menanamkan karakter diri yaitu toleransi, kerjasama, kepekaan terhadap fenomena alam, berpikir terbuka, kecermatan, kerja keras, disiplin, dan kejujuran. Aspek karakter toleransi dan kerjasama memperoleh hasil yang lebih tinggi dari aspek lainnya. Antara kecerdasan majemuk dan karakter diri mahasiswa terdapat keterkaitan. Tujuh dari delapan kecerdasan majemuk, memegang peranan penting dan memberikan kontribusi terhadap penanaman karakter diri yaitu kecerdasan linguistik, naturalis, visual spasial, musikal, kinestetik, interpersonal dan intrapersonal. Program IT-KM dapat diimplementasikan bagi dosen/guru sains khususnya Fisika dan Geografi. A study to develop an integrated Earth and Space Science course with multiple intelligences has been carried out. This study is motivated by the common perception that Earth and Space Science (ESS) course is two separated subjects, resulting in un-meaningful and incomplete knowledge of the students. Research and Development with 4-D models was used to develop the integrated Earth and Space Science with multiple intelligences course (IT-KM). Several instruments are used that include the integrated ESS competence test, peer assessment, and self assessment for multiple intelligences. A number of prospective teachers (n=51) in Department of Physics Education who took Earth and Space Science course were participated in this study. The participants were divided into two groups: the experiment group (n=25) that was treated with IT-KM and control group (n=26) that was subjected to regular course with multiple intelligences. IT-KM combines the terrestrial and astronomical subject, that are detailed in the aspects of: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Geography, Climatology, Oceanography, Meteorology, Astronomy, and Environment. IT-KM program was designed to improve the concept mastery of students, and self characters bulding. The result indicated that the concept mastery of the students in the experiment group was significantly higher (95%) than that of control group. The concept mastery of the multiple intelligence’s students was not much differ significantly. IT-KM program successfully accommodate multiple intelligences difference. The two self characters that embedded through IT-KM, namely tolerance and cooperation, both have a strong positive result and began to internalize phase. The other self characters, such as sensitivity to natural phenomena, open mind, accuracy, hard working, discipline, and honesty fell into growing category phase. It was found that there is an significant interrelation between multiple intelligence and self character of the students. Seven out of the eight multiple intelligences, namely linguistic, naturalist, visual-spatial, musical, kinesthetic, interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence, play an important role in contributing to the self character building. Another impact is IT-KM can be implemented for science lecturer especially physics and geography lecturer.
