Abstract
The paper reported a research carried out to investigate the effectiveness of Total Physical Response of the conducted research for English teaching to improve and develop speaking skill of the beginners. The primary purpose of the research was to find the effective method to teach oral competence to the beginners. Students’ attitudes toward the implementation of Total Physical Response of the research were also observed. The subjects involved in the research were sixth grade students of an elementary school. The collected data for analysis were obtained through a number of instruments, namely, tests, questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The data collections were analyzed statistically as well as interpretatively. The findings of the research indicated that the implementation of Total Physical Response of the research resulted in effective English teaching to improve and develop students’ speaking skill in the beginning level. In addition, students involved in the research generally confessed that the use of Total Physical Response could increase their achievement and motivation in learning English.
