Abstract
Problem solving ability is very important for all students, since this ability can be applied in solving their daily life problems. In reality, however, most of the students do not meet these requirements. The character of each student in finding solutions to a problem faced may be different, as it can be affected by the level of his/her Adversity Quotient (AQ). Adversity Quotient is related to students’ ability in facing difficulties or obstacles when they encounter problems. The purpose of this research is to describe students’ mathematical problem solving ability who have different AQ category. This research is qualitative in nature where a phenomenological design is used. The subjects of this research were the 8th grade students at one of Public Junior High Schools, i.e. SMP Negeri 1 Lembang, who have studied the topic of System of Linear Equations in Two Variable. Based on the results of data analysis in this research, it can be concluded that the students who have low AQ often feel unsure or doubtful about their ability in answering mathematical questions and have not met all indicators of problem solving ability. The students who are in a moderate AQ level already feel confident about their ability in answering mathematical questions, but there is one indicator that has not been met, namely the indicator of reflection and development. The students who have high AQ already feel confident in answering mathematical questions and are able to fulfill all the demand indicated in the problem solving abilities.
