Abstract

Perilaku pencarian informasi didasari dengan adanya information gap pada diri setiap individu. Dalam proses mengisi information-gap tersebut, individu akan menjumpai beberapa hambatan. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi dari hadirnya Program Studi DKV UPI yang baru didirikan pada tahun 2018 serta adanya keterbatasan koleksi buku Perpustakaan UPI pada bidang keilmuan DKV. Hal tersebut membuat mahasiswa cenderung mengandalkan sumber digital sebagai sumber informasi. Salah satunya adalah media sosial Pinterest. Secara umum, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran perilaku pencarian informasi Mahasiswa DKV UPI untuk memenuhi kebutuhan informasinya dengan menggunakan media sosial Pinterest. Pendekatan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif deskriptif dengan metode survei. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah stratified random sampling berdasarkan angkatan dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 75 orang. Peneliti menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data dengan instrumen penelitian berupa kuesioner yang disebarkan secara daring. Analisis data dilakukan dengan statistik deskriptif persentase dan rating scale. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perilaku pencarian informasi Mahasiswa DKV berdasarkan Digital Information Fluency sudah baik. Secara khusus, penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perilaku pencarian mahasiswa pada tahap Locationg Information Efficiently berada dalam kategori baik, sementara pada tahap Evaluating Information Effectively dan Using Information Ethically berada dalam kategori sangat baik. Kemudian, secara keseluruhan, hambatan internal dan ekstrenal yang dialami mahasiswa berada dalam kategori tidak menghambat.--Information seeking behavior is based on the information gap in each individual. In the process of filling the information-gap, people will encounter some barriers. This research is motivated by the presence of Visual Communication Design study program in UPI which was newly established in 2018, and the limited of book collection in UPI Central Library in Visual Communication Design field. That makes students tend to rely on digital sources as a source of informaton. One of them is Pinterest. In general, this research aims to describe the information seeking behavior of UPI’s Visual Communication Design students to fulfill their information needs by using Pinterest. The approach used in this research is descriptive quantitative with survey method. The sampling technique used is stratified random sampling based on the year/class of the students, with a total sample of 75 people. The researcher used data collection technique with research instruments in the form of questionnaires distributed online. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics of percentages and rating scales. Base in the results of the study, the information seeking information of Visual Communication Design students was good. In particular, the study shows that students’ information seeking behavior at the Locating Information Efficiently stage falls into the category of good, while at the Evaluating Information Effectively and Using Information Ethically stage fall into the category of very good. Then, the internal and external barriers experienced by students fall into the category of non-inhibiting.
