Abstract

Banyak siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita. Meskipun mereka dapat menyelesaikan masalah matematis (bukan soal cerita) dengan baik, namun ketika permasalahan tersebut disajikan dalam bentuk soal cerita, siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan tersebut. Hal tersebutlah yang melatarbelakangi penelitian ini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita matematis yang mendapatkan pembelajaran PIES dibandingkan siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran konvensional, serta untuk mengetahui respon siswa mengenai penerapan pembelajaran PIES. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian pretest-posttest control design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa SMP Negeri 2 Lembang kelas VIII tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Pada penelitian ini diambil dua kelas sampel, satu kelas eksperimen yang akan mendapatkan pembelajaran PIES untuk menyelesaikan soal cerita matematis dan satu kelas kontrol yang akan mendapatkan pembelajaran konvensional untuk menyelesaikan soal cerita matematis. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah instrumen tes kemampuan menyelesaikan soal cerita matematis dan instrumen non tes yang berupa lembar observasi aktivitas kegiatan pembelajaran dan angket sikap siswa. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran strategi PIES memiliki peningkatan kemampuan menyelesaikan soal cerita matematis yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran strategi konvensional. Hal tersebut dapat terlihat dari peningkatan kemampuan menyelesaikan soal cerita metamatis siswa yang menggunakan strategi PIES termasuk kedalam kategori tinggi sedangkan siswa yang menggunakan strategi konvensional termasuk kedalam kategori sedang. Dan berdasarkan hasil analisis angket sikap, siswa memberikan respon positif terhadap penerapan strategi PIES untuk menyelesaikan soal cerita matematis;---Many students have difficulties in solving mathematical word problem. Even though they can solve the mathematical problem (not word problem) very well, but when the problem presented in word problem, they have difficulties in solving these problem. That is the reason for this research. The purpose of this research is to find out increasing student’s ability in solving mathematical word problem who have been learning PIES strategy compared with conventional strategy, and to find out student’s responses about application of PIES strategy. The method applied in this research was a quasi experiment with pretest-posttest control design as research design. Populations in this research were all eight grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Lembang in academic year 2018/2019. There are two sample classes, one class that will have learn PIES strategy for solving mathematical word problem, and another class that will have learn convensional strategy for solving mathematical word problem. The data collection of the instrument used in this research is test instrument to show solving mathematical word problem’s ability and non-test instrument such as questionnaires of students’ attitude and observation sheet of students’ learning activity. Based on the results of this research, it was concluded that students who learned the PIES strategy had an increased ability to solve mathematical word problems that were better than students who learned the conventional strategy. This can be seen from the increase in the ability to solve mathematical word problem of students who used the PIES strategy included in the high category while students who use conventional strategies included into the medium category. And based on the results of the student attitude questionnaire analysis, students gave a positive response to the application of the PIES strategy to solve mathematical word problem.
