Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul “Analisis Dog Trot Komposisi Ensambel Saxophone Karya Louis Thomas Hardin”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pengolahan melodi dan harmonisasi pada bagian-bagian komposisi Dog Trot karya Louis Thomas Hardin yang dimainkan oleh ensambel saxophone yang terdiri dari lima instrumen jenis saxophone, yang terdiri dari sopran saxophone 1, sopran saxophone 2, alto axophone 1, alto axophone 2, tenor saxophone 1, tenor saxophone 2, baritone saxophone 1, baritone saxophone 2 dan bass saxophone. Fokus penelitian ini lebih tertuju pada konsep pengolahan melodi dan harmonisasi secara vertikal maupun secara horizontal pada komposisi Dot Trot karya Louis Thomas Hardin, yang merupakan seorang musisi tuna netra. Untuk menjawab semua pertanyaan penelitian, maka dilakukan teknik pengumpulan data melalui metode deskriptif analisis dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Data-data diperoleh melalui studi literatur berupa partitur dan buku yang terkait, juga dengan pengumpulan dokumentasi audio dan video melalui CD dan media internet. Berdasarkan hasil temuan penelitian, ternyata komposisi Dog Trot memiliki konsep polifon dan konsep homofon yang dibangun oleh pengolahan melodi dan harmonisasi pada masing-masing instrumen dengan melodi frase yang terdapat pada komposisi Dog Trot, adapun terdapat bagian melodi kanon yang diciptakan oleh Louis Thomas Hardin yang berupa siklus pengulangan dan pengembangan dengan konsep pola sahutan pada ensambel saxophone.;--The title of this research is "Analysis of the Dog Trot Composition of Saxophone Ensemble by Louis Thomas Hardin". This research aims to know how the melody processing and harmonization in the composition of the Dog Trot by Louis Thomas Hardin, played by saxophone ensembles that consist of five saxophone type instruments which are soprano saxophone 1, soprano saxophone 2, alto saxophone 1, alto saxophone 2, tenor saxophone 1, tenor saxophone 2, baritone saxophone 1, baritone saxophone 2 and bass saxophone. The focus of this research is more on the concept of melody processing and harmonization vertically or horizontally on the composition of Dot Trot by Louis Thomas Hardin, who is a blind musician. To answer all research questions, a data collection technique was carried out through a descriptive analysis method with a qualitative approach. The data is obtained through literature studies in the form of scores and related books, also by collecting audio and video documentation through CDs and internet media. Based on the research findings, it turns out that the composition of the Dog Trot has polyphonic and homophonic concepts built by melody processing and harmonization of each instrument with the phrase melody contained in the Dog Trot composition, while there is a canon melody part created by Louis Thomas Hardin in the form the cycle of repetition and development with the concept of a reply pattern on the saxophone ensemble.
