Abstract

untuk mepersiapkan siswa dalam menghadapi tantangan hidup di abad 21. Kegiatan Praktikum merupakan salah satu aktivitas yang diklaim dapat mengembangan keterampilan tersebut. Namun yang terjadi di lapangan, guru lebih sering melaksanakan jenis praktikum verifikatif yang dinilai kurang dapat melatihkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk menginvestigasi penerapan kegiatan praktikum Higher Order Thinking (HOT) Lab dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif siswa dibandingkan dengan kegiatan praktikum verifikatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode quasi eksperimen dengan disain pretest postest control group. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di salah SMA di Kabupaten Tasikmalaya dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 72 siswa yang dipilih secara random sampling kemudian dibagi menjadi dua kelompok yakni kelompok eksperimen yang melaksanakan kegiatan HOT lab dan Kelompok Kontrol yang melaksanakan kegiatan praktikum verifikasi. Pada penelitian ini digunakan instrumen tes keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif yang berbentuk essay untuk mengukur keterampilan tersebut sebelum dan sesudah implementasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengaruh implementasi desain HOT lab terhadap keterampilan berpikir kritis dikategorikan tinggi dengan nilai ukuran dampak (d)= 1,945 dan pengaruh terhadap peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kreatif dikategorikan tinggi dengan nilai d = 1,951. Nilai rata-rata N-Gain yang didapat untuk keterampilan berpikir kritis adalah sebesar 0,347 (sedang) untuk kelompok yang melaksanakan kegiatan HOT lab dan 0,131 (rendah). Sedangkan N-Gain untuk keterampilan berpikir kreatif sebesar 0,357 (sedang) untuk kelompok yang melaksanakan kegiatan HOT Lab dan 0,204 (rendah) untuk kelompok yang melaksanakan kegiatan praktikum verifikasi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif siswa yang melaksanakan kegiatan HOT lab lebih tinggi dibanding siswa yang melaksanakan praktikum verifikasi. ;---Critical and creative Thinking Skills as part of 21st century skills is important to be mastered by students in preparing them to compete in real life challenge. Laboratory activity is one of activity that can be used in developing those skill. However, teachers usually implement verification lab activity which claimed to be ineffective to provide opportunity to develop the skills. A quasi experiment study with pretest postes group design was conducted to investigate how is implementation of Higher Order Thinking (HOT) Lab design in improving students critical and creative thinking skills compare to those who conducted verification lab. This research was conducted in one of High School in Tasikmalaya with sample of research as much as 72 students. The sample were divided into group of experiment who conducted HOT Lab activity and group of control who conducted Verification Lab. Critical Thinking Test and Creative Thinking Test were used to measure students’ critical and creative thinking skills before and after the activities conducted. The result shown that the effect of HOT lab implementation toward improvement of critical thinking skills is categorized as high with effect size value (d)= 1,945 and effect of the implementation toward improvement of creative thinking skills is categorized as high with d=1,952.The improvement of critical thinking in experimental group is higher compare to those in control group with <g>= 0,355 (medium improvement) for students in experimental group and <g>= 0,131 (low improvement) for those in control group. Similarly, the improvement of creative thinking in experimental group is higher compare to those in control group with <g> = 0,357 (medium improvement) for students in experimental group and <g>= 0,204 (low improvement) for those in control group. To sum up, there was significant improvement of critical thinking and creative thinking skills in HOT Lab Implemented Group compare to those in Verification lab group,
