Abstract
Penelitian ini berawal dari permasalahan yang terjadi di kelas VIII-C SMP Negeri 2 Lembang terkait pemahaman konsep siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Indikator permasalahan yang ditemukan adalah rendahnya perhatian siswa dalam mengikuti pembelajaran dan hasil belajar siswa yang relatif rendah. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut dapat disimpulkan pemahaman konsep siswa masih rendah. Maka peneliti memilih Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan desain penelitian Kemmis & McTaggart yang setiap siklusnya terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamtan, dan refleksi. Alternatif pemecahan masalah yang dipilih yaitu dengan menggunakan teka-teki silang (TTS). Upaya meningkatkan pemahaman konsep melalui penggunaan teka-teki silang dalam pembelajaran IPS dapat dikatakan berhasil dalam tiga siklus. Keberhasilan penelitian dilihat dari adanya peningkatan indikator pemahaman konsep yaitu kemampuan menjelaskan, kemampuan menginterpretasi, kemampuan mencontohkan, kemampuan mengklasifikasi, dan kemampuan membandingkan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pertama, perencanaan penelitian dirancang dengan baik. Kedua, pelaksanaan tindakan penelitian untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa melalui penggunaan teka-teki silang dalam kegiatan pembelajaran terus meningkat pada setiap siklusnya. Ketiga, pemahaman konsep siswa meningkat setelah mengikuti pembelajaran dengan menggunakan teka-teki silang, berdasarkan peningkatan seluruh indikator dari siklus pertama hingga siklus ketiga. Keempat, merefleksi kekurangan atau kendala pada setiap siklus dan melakukan perbaiakan pada siklus berikutnya. Kelima, penggunaan teka-teki silang dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa. ;--- This research comes from the issues raised at class VIII-C SMP Negeri 2 Lembang related to the students’ concept understanding in learning social science. Indicators of the problems found is the low attention of students to participate in learning and the students’ learning outcomes are relatively low. Based on these problems can be summed that the concept understanding of students are still low. So the researcher chooses a Class Action Research (PTK) with the research design of Kemmis & McTaggart that each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observing, and reflection. An alternative solution selected is using crossword puzzle (TTS). The efforts to increase the concept understanding through the use of a crossword puzzle in learning social science are successful in three cycles. The success of the research is seen from the increasing of indicators in the concept understanding, those are the abilities to explain, to interpret, to exemplify, to classify, and to compare. Based on the results of research that has been done, it can be concluded that first, the research planning is well-designed. Second, the action research to increase the students’ concept understanding through the use of a crossword puzzle in learning activity is increasing in each cycle. Third, the students’ concept understanding increases after following the study using crossword puzzles, based on the increasing of all indicators from the first cycle to the third cycle. Fourth, reflecting the deficiencies or obstacles in each cycle and doing improvement in the next cycle. Fifth, the use of a crossword puzzle can enhance the students' concept understanding.
