Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana Perpustakaan Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia melakukan kegiatan penyiangan (weeding) untuk koleksi grey literature, kebijakan penyiangan koleksi grey literature, dan alasan yang melandasi penyiangan untuk koleksi grey literature. Koleksi grey literature merupakan karya ilmiah mahasiswa Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia yang telah menyelesaikan pendidikannya dalam bentuk skripsi, tesis dan disertasi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif dan menggunakan desain penelitian studi kasus. Teknik pengambilan data yang digunakan adalah wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Informan dalam penelitian merupakan pustakawan dan staf administrasi yang berjumlah dua orang. Penentuan informan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa sekali dalam setahun Perpustakaan Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia melakukan penyiangan koleksi grey literature untuk mengurangi kepadatan koleksi dan mengatasi keterbatasan ruangan penyimpanan koleksi. Penyiangan koleksi grey literature perlu dilakukan untuk menghadapi perkembangan yang terjadi pada perpustakaan karena perpustakaan merupakan unit kerja yang bersifat dinamis yang terus berkembang sesuai dengan perkembangan teknologi dan pengetahuan atau “the library is a growing organism“ yaitu hukum kelima dalam lima hukum dasar perpustakaan dari Ranganathan. Perkembangan perpustakaan yang terjadi terutama pada segi koleksi harus diimbangi dengan penyiangan koleksi. Maka penyiangan koleksi untuk koleksi grey literature Pada Perpustakaan Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia diharapakan dapat lebih optimal.;---This study is aims to determine how Indonesia University of Education Library implement weeding to their grey literature (GL) collection, GL collection weeding policy, and underlying reasons for weeding GL collection. GL collection is a scientific paper by Indonesia University of Education’s student who have completed their education in the form of essays, theses, and dissertations. This study used qualitative approach with descriptive method by applying case study design. The techniques used for data collection are interview, observation and documentation study. The informant in this study is librarian and administrative staff two people in number. The samplimg technique in this study was done by using purposive sampling. The result shows that that once a year the Indonesia University of Education Library weeding its GL collections to reduce the density of collections and to resolve the limited collection storage space. GL collection weeding needs to be done to deal with developments in the library because the library is a dynamic unit which continues to grow in accordance with the development of science and technology. The fifth law of library science "the library is a growing organism" reflects the dynamic growth of collection availability. The development in library and especially in the collection must be balanced with weeding the collection. So weeding for GL collections of Indonesia University of Education Library is expected to be optimal.
