Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pembelajaran IPS yang masih dilaksanakan secara terpisah menurut bidang kajian yang meliputi geografi, sejarah, ekonomi dan sosiologi. Padahal dalam struktur kurikulum SMP dijelaskan bahwa substansi mata pelajaran IPA dan IPS pada SMP/MTs merupakan “IPA Terpadu” dan “IPS Terpadu”. Oleh karena itu, dalam mengembangkan kurikulum dalam pembelajaran haruslah terpadu. Agar dapat melaksanakan suatu pembelajaran terpadu maka digunakan pendekatan tematik sebagai pendekatan dalam pembelajarannya. Kemudian dalam pembelajaran IPS selama ini telah terjadi suatu proses yang sistematik yang menjauhkan anak-anak muda dari lingkungannya. Mereka menjadi asing dan kurang mengenal potensi daerah tempat mereka tinggal. Pendidikan yang mereka tempuh tidak memberikan ilmu yang mendorong mereka mencintai daerahnya, dan tidak membukakan mata mereka bahwa di daerah dimana mereka tinggal tersimpan potensi dan kesempatan yang luar biasa besar untuk meningkatkan kemakmuran. Peneliti melakukan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) ini agar lebih mengembangkan potensi dan kepekaan siswa terhadap segala permasalahan yang ada disekitar mereka. Pembelajaran yang terjadipun akan lebih bermakna karena siswa menghubungkan langsung fenomena yang ada di sekitar mereka dengan esensi pengetahuan yang sedang mereka pelajari. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan sebanyak tiga siklus dengan duabelas kali pertemuan, diperoleh peningkatan kompetensi siswa, baik aspek pengetahuan (heads/kognitif), sikap (heart/afektif), maupun aspek keterampilan (hands/active). Data awal pada siklus kesatu menunjukkan nilai kompetensi siswa berada pada kategori “kurang” dan mengalami peningkatan pada siklus kedua menjadi kategori “cukup”, serta menjadi kategori “baik” pada siklus ketiga. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran IPS tematik dapat meningkatkan kompetensi siswa dalam mengenal potensi daerah Cineam serta dapat diterapkan disekolah menengah pertama lainnya.;--- This study is derived from because of studying social science which mainly concentrated purely on its field of discussion such as geography, history, economy, and sociology. In fact, junior high school (SMP) curriculum’s structure has been described the substnce of physic and social science is shall be set of integrated curriculum and therefore those field of discussion shall be integrative as a set of teaching subject. The integrated curriculum can only be undertaken with the development of thematic approach in learning process. This partial discussion learning subject has set student apart from their environments. They became extraneous, odds and were lacked to recognize their environments potential. This kind of learning process had set them apart to either loving the region where they grow or to proudly recognize their regional potentials. Many of them even unable to find enormous opportunity in their own homeland because of a less acknowledge of their own homeland in the very early stage of learning. This action class research was in such spirit and significance to encourage more students be more sensitive and attentive to their homeland potentials and opportunities and proactive to their regional settings and problems. This kind of action class research was added with various updated phenomena and problem and to relate them with the significant of studying social science. This research was conducted for three cycles 12 class meetings. The result shows that there is the enhancement of students’ competence in heads/cognititive aspect, heart/affective aspect and alsohands/active aspect. The first cycle preliminary data shows that the competence is in “not good” category. At the second cycle, it developed into “good enough” category, then it turned to “good” category in the third cycle. In conclusion, this research has shown that the application of thematic approach in learning social science proved to be effective to increase student ability and competency to recognize their regional potential Cineam, and also its seen as workable learning process to be applied in social science at school.
