Abstract

Skripsi ini dilatarbelakangi oleh ketertarikan penulis terhadap sejarah dan peran Museum Nasional dalam melestarikan warisan budaya Indonesia, khususnya dalam menghadapi perkembangan dan tantangan zaman. Museum Pusat yang diresmikan sebagai museum tingkat nasional berperan sebagai lembaga pelestarian warisan budaya Indonesia dan bertanggung jawab dalam menjaga dan mempromosikan warisan budaya Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejarah dan upaya Museum Nasional dalam melestarikan warisan budaya Indonesia dari tahun 1979-2022. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode historis yang terdiri dari tahap heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Berdasarkan penelitian, penulis memperoleh beberapa temuan. Pertama, kehadiran Museum Nasional berawal dari himpunan zaman Hindia Belanda yaitu Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen yang didirikan pada tahun 1778 serta mengalami dinamika dan perubahan sampai pada masa Indonesia setelah kemerdekaan. Penetapan Museum Nasional pada tahun 1979 didasarkan pada kepentingan identitas dari Museum Pusat. Kedua, Museum Nasional melakukan kegiatan pelestarian warisan budaya Indonesia berdasarkan pada kebijakan pemerintah dari tahun 1979-2022 yang memiliki fokus dan pelaksanaan pelestarian yang berbeda. Ketiga, kegiatan pelestarian yang dilakukan oleh Museum Nasional memberikan dampak melalui komunitas pecinta sejarah dengan memperkuat identitas mereka melalui keterlibatan dan partisipasi dalam program dan kegiatan Museum Nasional. Keempat, pelestarian warisan budaya oleh Museum Nasional pada tahun 1979-2022 didorong oleh kebijakan, anggaran, dan dukungan untuk berpartisipasi aktif dalam kegiatan internasional. Museum Nasional juga dihadapkan pada hambatan seperti kurangnya pengawasan dalam keamanan dan keterbatasan SDM yang mempengaruhi kualitas pelestarian. This thesis is motivated by the author’s interest in the history and role of the National Museum in preserving Indonesia’s cultural heritage, particularly in facing contemporary developments and challenges. Established as a national-level museum, the Central Museum functions as an institution for preserving Indonesia’s cultural heritage and is responsible for safeguarding and promoting it. This research aims to explore the history and efforts of the National Museum in preserving Indonesia’s cultural heritage from 19792022. The research method is the historical method, which consists of heuristic, criticism, interpretation, and historiography stages. Based on the research, the author obtained several findings. First, the presence of the National Museum originated from Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen, an association from the Dutch East Indies era founded in 1778 and has experienced dynamics and changes through Indonesia’s postindependence period. The designation of the National Museum in 1979 was based on the importance of the Central Museum’s identity. Second, the National Museum carries out cultural heritage preservation efforts according to government policies from 1979-2022, which reflect varied focuses and implementations. Third, the preservation activities conducted by the National Museum have impacted the community of history enthusiasts by strengthening their identity through involvement and participation in the National Museum’s programs and activities. Fourth, from 1979 to 2022, the National Museum’s cultural heritage preservation has been driven by policies, budgets, and support for active participation in international activities. The National Museum has also faced obstacles, such as insufficient security supervision and limited human resources, which have affected the quality of preservation.
