Abstract

Anak dengan disabilitas intelektual menghadapi kesulitan dalam kemandirian akibat keterbatasan kecerdasan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan implementasi pendidikan karakter dalam memupuk kemandirian anak disabilitas intelektual di SLB C Sumbersari, Kota Bandung. Fokus penelitian adalah pada peran program pendidikan di sekolah serta keterlibatan orang tua dalam proses pembentukan kemandirian. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif, melibatkan wawancara dengan kepala sekolah, guru, dan orang tua, observasi siswa, serta analisis dokumentasi. Data dianalisis melalui proses reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa SLB C Sumbersari telah mengimplementasikan program-program inovatif seperti kelas keterampilan dan bina diri yang dirancang untuk meningkatkan kemampuan praktis anak disabilitas intelektual. Keberhasilan program tersebut didukung oleh keterlibatan aktif orang tua di rumah. Namun, tantangan utama yang dihadapi adalah variasi tingkat pemahaman siswa dan kurangnya dukungan dari beberapa keluarga. Secara keseluruhan, pendidikan karakter melalui program unggulan dan kerjasama yang baik antara sekolah dan orang tua berhasil meningkatkan kemandirian anak disabilitas intelektual. intelligence. This research aims to describe the implementation of character education in fostering the independence of children with intellectual disabilities at SLB C Sumbersari, Bandung City. The focus of the research is on the role of educational programs in schools and the involvement of parents in the process of establishing independence. The method used is a case study with a qualitative approach, involving interviews with school principals, teachers and parents, student observations and documentation analysis. Data were analyzed through a process of reduction, presentation and drawing conclusions. The findings show that SLB C Sumbersari has implemented innovative programs such as skills classes and self-development designed to improve the practical abilities of children with intellectual disabilities. The success of the program is supported by the active involvement of parents at home. However, the main challenges faced were variations in students' levels of understanding and a lack of support from some families. Overall, character education through superior programs and good collaboration between schools and parents has succeeded in increasing the independence of children with intellectual disabilities.
