Abstract
Students' map reading abilities remain low due to the inadequate learning approach. This research aims to analyze the comparison between the project-based learning model and the discovery learning model in enhancing map reading skills. The method employed is a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent group design, involving two experimental classes: Class 11 IPS 2 using the project-based learning model and Class 11 IPS 5 using the discovery learning model. Data analysis was conducted using gain-scores, T-tests, and regression analysis. The results indicate a significant difference between the two learning models. The average post-test score for the project-based learning model is 68.85, while for the discovery learning model it is 62.68. The average gain score for the project-based learning model is 26, compared to 17.6 for the discovery learning model. The impact of project-based learning is 73.4%, which is higher than the impact of discovery learning at 50%. This research is expected to contribute to geography education and geography teaching models. The findings indicate that project-based learning is more effective in enhancing map reading skills compared to discovery learning. This research can serve as a recommendation for geography teachers to implement the project-based learning model in the classroom, especially in relation to map reading skills.
