Abstract
Abstract Morphology is the study of the internal structure of words and how words are formed. Through human creativity, they could create new words and expressions, constantly evolving languages. This process of creating words and expressions is called the word formation process. Word formation is essential to be analyzed to comprehend the morphological structure and the word’s origin. For this reason, the current research aims to analyze the types of word formation processes as well as their distribution in 113 Threads posts. Furthermore, this research used a qualitative method in the form of a case study. Purposive sampling, additionally, was employed to select the lists of new English words from Threads. The analysis is based on Yule’s (2010) theory to categorize the types of word formation processes. In addition, this study categorized the collected data into table to examine how the distribution of word formation processes categorized in Threads posts. The result of the study reveals that there were 1 coinage (2%), 5 borrowing (9%), 11 compounding (20%), 1 blending (2%), 1 clipping (2%), 1 conversion (2%), 2 acronyms (4%), 31 derivations (57%), and 1 multiple processes (2%), with the total of 54 data. This data shows the types of word formation processes found and their distribution in Threads posts.
