The adverbs mamonaku, yagate, and sono uchi are adverbs of time (jikan fukushi) which
are used as adverbs to indicate an event will occur in the near future. The purpose of this
study is to find out the meaning, differences and similarities in meaning, and whether they
can replace one another in sentences or not. The method used is descriptive qualitative.
Data collection techniques use literature from books, articles, etc. In addition, the method
of observing and noting is also used for later analysis. Then the agih and substitution
methods are used to find out whether the three adverbs can be substituted for each other.
The results of this study show that the meaning of the adverb mamonaku shows a short or
immediate time that will occur in the near future. It is often found in formal situations with
a high degree of certainty of its occurrence. The adverb yagate has the meaning of a short
time which explains the end result of an event, cause and effect, hope and prediction. Events
will occur but in the near future which is sometimes vague. The adverb sono uchi has the
meaning of a short time which indicates changes, hopes, predictions in the near future that
are vague. t is often used in spoken language and the certainty of its occurrence is low.
These three adverbs show the adverb similarity as a short adverb of time. The difference
lies in the nuances and degree of certainty. These three adverbs can replace each other in a
sentence by considering the context of the meaning and nuances of the sentence.
