PENERAPAN METODE PEMBELAJARAN PROBLEM SOLVING DALAM MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR KRITIS SISWA PADA MATA PELAJARAN KONSTRUKSI JALAN DAN JEMBATAN DI SMK NEGERI 7 BALEENDAH Oleh, Lulu Khansa Adillasyahira – NIM 1909637 Program Studi Pendidikan Teknik Bangunan, Fakultas Pendidikan Teknologi dan Kejuruan, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia e-mail: khansalulu11@upi.edu ABSTRAK Kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan hal yang penting untuk ditingkatkan karena siswa SMK merupakan sebagian daripada proses pendidikan pada peringkat menengah atas pada sistem pendidikan serta mempunyai orientasi untuk mempersiapkan dan menyokong kemampuan siswa untuk memenuhi keperluan mereka di masa depan. Salah satu keperluan yang diperlukan adalah kemampuan berpikir kritis. Fungsi kemampuan berpikir kritis bagi siswa SMK adalah untuk membentuk pola berfikir yang dapat menghasilkan ide, menganalisis produk yang mempunyai nilai, dan dapat bertindak secara praktikal dalam menghadapi situasi alam sekitar. Meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis adalah salah satu tujuan utama dalam proses pendidikan. Kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi atau Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) yang menjadi keperluan dalam pendidikan abad ke-21. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa setelah diterapkan metode pembelajaran problem solving pada mata pelajaran konstruksi jalan dan jembatan di SMKN 7 Baleendah. Pada penelitian kali ini peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian quasi eksperimental dengan melaksanaan pre-test di kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol dengan soal pre-test yang identik dan didapatkan hasil akhir perbedaan tingkat kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada kelas eksperimen dengan metode problem solving dan kelas kontrol dengan metode konvensional. Gambaran penerapan metode pembelajaran problem solving pada mata pelajaran konstruksi jalan dan jembatan dinilai baik dengan hasil kegiatan siswa yang cukup baik. Tingkat kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada mata pelajaran konstruksi jalan dan jembatan untuk kelas kontrol dinilai mengalami peningkatan yang cukup baik sedangkan untuk kelas eksperimen dinilai mengalami peningkatan yang sangat signifikan namun penerapan metode pembelajaran problem solving ini dinilai kurang efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. One of the essential skills required is critical thinking ability. The function of critical thinking ability for SMK students is to shape a thinking pattern that can generate ideas, analyze valuable products, and act practically in facing environmental situations. Improving critical thinking skills is one of the primary objectives of the education process. Critical thinking ability is a higher-order thinking skill (HOTS) required in 21st-century education. The purpose of this research is to determine how students' critical thinking ability improves after the implementation of the problem-solving teaching method in the subject of road and bridge construction at SMKN 7 Baleendah. In this research, the researcher used a quasi-experimental research method, conducting a pre-test in both the experimental and control classes with identical pre-test questions. The research found the final result of the difference in students' critical thinking ability levels between the experimental class with problem-solving method and the control class with conventional method. The implementation of the problem-solving teaching method in the subject of road and bridge construction was assessed as good, with satisfactory results in students' activities. The level of students' critical thinking ability in the subject of road and bridge construction for the control class was assessed to have improved significantly, while for the experimental class, it was evaluated to have improved significantly. However, the application of the teaching method was considered less effective in enhancing students' critical thinking ability. Keywords: Teaching method, Problem-solving, Critical thinking ability.
