Abstract

Bahan ajar memegang peranan penting dalam perencanaan pembelajaran yang efektif. Ketersediaan bahan ajar berguna bagi siswa dalam memahami materi dengan lebih mudah dan pedoman bagi guru untuk mencapai tujuan pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendesain bahan ajar matematika pada materi statistika berdasarkan prosedur Newman pada siswa SMP. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode design research. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 27 siswa kelas IX yang mengikuti uji permulaan dan 28 siswa kelas VIII yang mendapatkan implementasi bahan ajar. Teknik pengumpulan data mencakup tes, observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil uji permulaan ditemukan berbagai kesalahan siswa yaitu: (1) kesalahan membaca soal; (2) kesalahan memahami masalah; (3) kesalahan transformasi masalah; (4) kesalahan keterampilan proses; (5) kesalahan penulisan jawaban akhir. Dari analisis kesalahan yang telah dilakukan, dirancanglah desain bahan ajar yang terdiri dari dua pertemuan. Desain ini mengikuti tahapan-tahapan dalam prosedur Newman serta terintegrasi dengan indikator kemampuan komunikasi siswa. Setelah implementasi bahan ajar kepada siswa yang belum mempelajari materi statistika, hasil uji tes menunjukkan berkurangnya kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita materi statistika. Berdasarkan temuan di lapangan, maka disusun desain bahan ajar revisi guna meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran yang diharapkan dapat membantu siswa mengurangi kesalahan dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan materi statistika dan memfasilitasi kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP dengan lebih baik. Teaching materials play a crucial role in effective lesson planning. The availability of teaching materials is beneficial for students to understand the lesson more easily and provides guidance for teachers to achieve learning objectives. Therefore, this research aims to design mathematics teaching materials for statistics based on the Newman procedure for junior high school students. This research is qualitative and employs the design research method. The subjects of the study consist of 27 9th-grade students who participated in the preliminary test and 28 8th-grade students who received the implementation of the teaching materials. Data collection techniques included tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. The preliminary test results revealed various student errors, namely (1) reading errors, (2) comprehension errors, (3) transformation errors, (4) process skill errors, and (5) encoding errors. Based on the error analysis, a teaching material design was formulated, consisting of two meetings. This design follows the stages outlined in the Newman procedure and is integrated with student communication skill indicators. After implementing the teaching materials for students who had not previously studied statistics, the test results showed reduced student errors when solving statistical problems. Based on the findings in the field, a revised teaching material design was developed to enhance the quality of learning. This is expected to help students reduce errors in solving statistical problems and facilitate better mathematical communication skills among junior high school students.
