Abstract

ABSTRACT Project-based learning is recommended in the independent curriculum with teaching and learning activities designed to make teachers and students actively involved. Another concern arises in the application of project-based learning methods, namely the existence of social loafing or social idleness which is characterized by individual efforts that are not maximally working on tasks in the group. This study aims to find the effect of project-based learning on reducing students' social loafing in 7th grade social studies subjects at SMP Negeri 29 Bandung using a quantitative approach and correlational methods. Researchers used instruments or distributed questionnaires to a sample of 170 people spread across class VII using probability sampling techniques. The results of data processing from this study showed a sig value of 0.000 < 0.05, meaning that there was a significant positive effect of project-based learning on reducing social loafing. The effect of project-based learning contributed 56.4% to the decrease of social loafing in SMP Negeri 29 Bandung and the remaining 43.6% was influenced by other factors. The implication of this study shows that project-based learning can be one of the alternatives to reduce social loafing in the classroom.
