Abstract

The research aimed to analyze and describe the effect of implementing Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Brain Based Learning (BBL) models on the acquisition and enhancement of the ability mathematical concepts understanding ability in elementary school students. The research used Descriptive research and Quasi Experimental Design methods with the One Group Pretest-Posttest design and Pretest-Posttest Control-Group Design without Randomization. The subjects in the research were 48 elementary school students in one of the public schools in the city of Bandung, which were divided into 2 classes. The first class learned using Problem Based Learning and the second class learned using Brain Based Learning. The results of thie research were: 1) the implementation of problem-based learning and brain-based learning models has a significant effect on the acquisition of students' ability to understand mathematical concepts; 2) the criteria for increasing the ability to understand mathematical concepts using problem-based learning models are included in the medium criteria and brain-based learning models are included in the high criteria; 3) there is no difference in the effect of the implementation of learning with the Problem Based Learning and Brain Based Learning models on the acquisition and enhancement of the ability to understand mathematical concepts.
