Abstract
The research entitled “The Use of SQ3R in Teaching Students’ Reading Comprehension” was aimed to answer the question whether the use of SQ3R strategy significantly improved students’ reading comprehension skill. Moreover, the students’ responses toward the SQ3R were also investigated. This quasi-experimental research involved two classes of students which were assigned as experimental group (N=31) and control group (N=31). The data were collected through pre-test, post-test, questionnaire, and interview. In analyzing the data, this study employed quantitative method by comparing the mean scores of both groups in pre-test and post-test. It was intended to examine the use of SQ3R strategy on students’ reading comprehension. Furthermore, the data taken from questionnaire and interview were also analyzed to find out students’ responses toward SQ3R strategy. The result of the research revealed that the SQ3R strategy significantly improved students’ reading comprehension. It was evidenced by the result of statistical computation (Independent t-test) in which the value of t obtained (2.609) was greater than the t crit (2.000, α=0.05, df=60). Meanwhile, the data from questionnaire and interview showed that students gave positive responses to SQ3R strategy. The findings of the study suggested that the implementation of SQ3R in learning reading help students to comprehend the English text better.
