Abstract

This study entitled “The Use of Stories in Teaching English at an Inclusive Classrroom with a Dyslexic Student” aims to find out the strategies focused on learning activities in teaching English by using stories in inclusive classroom with a dyslexic student and to investigate the difficulties encountered by the teacher during the teaching session. It focuses on strategies used by teacher in teaching English through stories in a third grade of elementary level in inclusive school. To collect data, instrument applied were namely observations, document analysis, and interviews. A female English teacher who teaches at third grade of elementary level in an inclusive classroom served as a respondent. It was found that the observed teacher applied a combination of storytelling and games in teaching English through stories proposed by Ellis and Brewster (1991) and it meets several goals in teaching in inclusive classroom proposed by Parson and Beauchamps (1995); equity, acceptance, power, interdependency, accommodation without assimilation, expansion. This study indicates that English teacher needs to be capable, aware of students’ needs, and creative in implementing stories in teaching English.
