Abstract

This thesis learn about codes semiotic of Barthes in the short story La Vénus d’Illeof Prosper Mérimée support other semiotic theories to sharpen the research about the codes exist in the story. The choice of this story, because in his creation Mérimée could reveal sharply and real, each region was told representing each reality.Neither the characters in the story La Vénus d’Illeimagine the perspective of the society. The short story of Prosper Mérimée has been required reading in the French school, because it enable the French students knows and respect their local diversity. The purpose of this research is to know the codes semiotic of Bathes. The Codes are analyzed comprise:code of hermeneutic, code of actions, code of semantic, code of symbolic and code of culture in the storyLa Vénus d’Ille and the implementation in the French literature learning process especially in the course La Littérature Française. Thisis a descriptive research to describe the codes semiotic of Barthes that found in the story La Vénus d’Illeof Prosper Mérimée. The research population’s is the codes semiotic of Barthes in the short story La Vénus d’Illeof Prosper Mérimée, and the sample of this research are five codes semiotic of Barthes in the short story La Vénus d’Illeof Prosper Mérimée. Base on the research known that not all of the codes semiotics of Barthes can found in the story, there were only three codes are: code of hermeneutic, code of actions, code of culture. Code of hermeneutic relate to the reader, the apparition enigma such as some questions: what the cause of the fanaticism of Mr. Peyrehorad to Vénus, the death of his boy and the desire to understand and to answer the enigma of the reader.The code of culture is about the relation between language and culture in the story, it made the possibility of a continuation from the culture, like spiritual experience. Code of actions is about the events done, and all of those are arranged well as linier and memorial. For example, the process of the Vénusdiscovery’s at the moment when they dig a tree and the action of owner wasn’t rational. Analyze the codes semiotic of Barthes expected could be a alternative method for the student to understand the text literature in the course La Littérature Française, L’histoire de France, La Civilisation FrancaiseandL'Étude de textes and could be a reference of learning to appreciate the literature in order to enlarge our literature knowledge, especially literature of French. As a French learner, we could maximize the development our competence by learn literature of French such as novel, roman, short story, song and poetry. Understanding peoples creations make us would understand people’s way of thinking’s, culture and history of French easily.
