Abstract

This study is aimed to investigate the use of films in teaching and learning speaking towards the eleventh grade students in Bandung and the students’ responses to the use of film. This research was conducted using classroom action research design. The data were obtained from participant observation, speaking test and questionnaires. It was found that the students enjoyed the learning process and were engaged in the classroom activities. Moreover, the contextual learning could be created through the use of films in learning speaking skills. In addition, their speaking comprehension when having conversation improved. They could use the utterances based on the conversation topic properly. Although both the teacher and students faced some problems, the students were enthusiastic about the use of films in the classroom. In conclusion, the use of films helps them to learn to speak English better.
