Abstract

The research was aimed to discover the use of songs in improving students’ grammar accuracy. The design employed in the research was quasi-experimental design. Seventy students of second grade of a Senior High School in Padalarang were taken and divided into two groups namely control group and experimental group. The data were gained from pre-test, post-test, and close-ended questionnaire. The data of the pre-test and the post-test were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test while the data of the questionnaire were analyzed descriptively. The result of the post-test showed the sig. (2-tailed) .001, which meant that the grammar accuracy improvement of students in the experimental class was significantly higher than the grammar accuracy improvement of the control class students. Moreover, the data of the questionnaire showed positive responses to the use of songs in learning grammar. Therefore, the use of songs in teaching grammar seems to be appropriate to be applied in EFL classrooms. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui penggunaan lagu dalam meningkatkan keakuratan grammar siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode quasi-experimental. Tujuh puluh orang siswa kelas dua SMA di sebuah SMA Negeri di Padalarang diambil sebagai sampel dan dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok kontrol dan kelompok eksperimen. Data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari kuisioner, pre-test, dan post-test. Data dari pre-test dan post-test diproses melalui Mann-Whitney U Test sementara data dari kuisioner diolah secara deskriptif. Hasil dari pengolahan post-test menunjukan sig. (2-tailed) .001. Ini menunjukan bahwa peningkatan keakuratan grammar pada kelompok eksperimen lebih tinggi dari kelompok kontrol secara signifikan. Selain itu, respon siswa terhadap penggunaan lagu dalam mempelajari grammar menunjukan respon positif. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan lagu dalam pengajaran grammar dapat diaplikasikan dalam kegiatan belajar-mengajar di dalam kelas.
