Abstract

Pendidikan memiliki peranan penting dalam menciptakan sumber daya manusia yang berkualitas terutama dalam menciptakan kompetensi pada diri siswa untuk siap menghadapi tantangan dan tuntutan global di abad 21. Salah satu kompetensi yang harus dimiliki siswa pada abad 21 adalah literasi membaca. Rendahnya minat membaca siswa dibuktikan dengan banyaknya siswa lebih tertarik bermain gadget daripada membaca buku. Hal tersebut diperparah dengan kondisi perpustakaan yang selama ini kurang lebih 5 tahun tutup sehingga membuat siswa kurang terfasilitasi untuk membaca. Penelitian yang dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan Sustained Silent Reading untuk meningkatkan minat baca siswa kelas V. Penelitian dilakukan di SDN 1 Pekantingan Cirebon. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengolahan data kualitatif yang menghasilkan data-data deskriptif dan desain penelitian studi Cross-sectional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan Sustained Silent Reading dapat meningkatkan minat baca dan intensitas membaca siswa serta mendukung peningkatan nilai rata-rata literasi siswa pada Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum (AKM). Kemudian penerapan Sustained Silent Reading di lakukan di dalam kelas dan di perpustakaan. Perpustakaan beroperasi kembali setelah 5 tahun lamanya memberikan daya tarik bagi siswa untuk berkunjung dan membaca di perpustkaan. Dengan ini, aktivitas membaca siswa terfasiltasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan, dapat dinyatakan bahwa penerapan Sustained Silent Reading efektif untuk meningkatkan minat baca siswa. Kata Kunci: Penerapan Sustained Silent Reading (SSR), Minat Baca Education has an important role in creating quality human resources, especially in creating competence in students to be ready to face global challenges and demands in the 21st century. One of the competencies that students must have in the 21st century is reading literacy. The low interest in reading students is evidenced by the number of students who are more interested in playing gadget rather than reading a book. This is exacerbated by the condition of the library which has been closed for about 5 years thus making students less facilitated to read. The research conducted aims to find out how the implementation Sustained Silent Reading to increase students' reading interest in class V. The research was conducted at SDN 1 Pekantingan Cirebon. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with qualitative data processing which produces descriptive data and a cross-sectional study design. The results showed that the application of Sustained Silent Reading could increase students' reading interest and reading intensity and support an increase in students' average literacy scores in the Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM). Then the application of Sustained Silent Reading is carried out in the classroom and in the library. The library is operating again after 5 years providing an attraction for students to visit and read in the library. With this, students' reading activities are facilitated. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be stated that the application of Sustained Silent Reading is effective in increasing students' interest in reading.
