Abstract

ABSTRAK Membaca merupakan salah satu keterampilan berbahasa yang perlu dikuasai untuk menunjang kehidupan. Namun keadaan di lapangan menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan membaca siswa Indonesia tergolong rendah. Saat ini masih banyak siswa SD, yang belum bisa membaca. Salah satu penyebab hal tersebut terjadi adalah kurangnya penggunaan media pembelajaran yang bervariasi. Motivasi dalam belajar membaca menjadi faktor yang penting karena dengan keragaman pendekatan, kegiatan yang melibatkan banyak indra, latihan membaca yang tepat dan aktif serta kegiatan yang menyenangkan akan membuat kemampuan membaca siswa menjadi lebih baik. Salah satu cara yang dapat ditempuh untuk melatih keterampilan membaca siswa adalah dengan permainan UTAKU (Ular Tangga Kartu) yang menyenangkan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan UTAKU (Ular Tangga Kartu) sebagai media pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I SD. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Design and Development (DnD) dengan model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu observasi, angket, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menggunakan skala guttman yang berupa validasi ahli materi, ahli media, ahli praktisi dan tanggapan siswa dengan rata-rata dengan persentase 100% yang termasuk pada kategori “Baik”. Kemudian, persentase peningkatan keterampilan membaca permulaan siswa juga menunjukkan hasil positif, siswa 1 mengalami peningkatan sebesar 9,1%, siswa 2 sebesar 9,6%, siswa 3 sebesar 75,6%, siswa 4 sebesar 8,2%, siswa 5 sebesar 10,6%, siswa 6 sebesar 79,5%, siswa 7 sebesar 100%, dan siswa 8 sebesar 84,4%. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran permainan UTAKU (Ular Tangga Kartu) layak digunakan serta dapat meningkatkan keterampilan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I SD. However, the situation on the ground shows that the reading ability of Indonesian students is relatively low. Currently, there are still many elementary school students who cannot read. One of the causes of this happening is the lack of use of various learning media. Motivation in learning to read is an important factor because with a variety of approaches, activities that involve many senses, appropriate and active reading exercises and fun activities will make students' reading skills better. One way that can be taken to practice students' reading skills is by playing a fun UTAKU (Snakes and Ladders Cards) game. The purpose of this study was to describe UTAKU (Snakes and Ladders Cards) as a medium for learning Indonesian to improve the beginning reading skills of first grade students in elementary school. This research uses the Design and Development (DnD) method with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). The instruments used in this study were observation, questionnaires, and documentation. The results of the study used the guttman scale in the form of validation of material experts, media experts, practitioner experts and student responses with an average percentage of 100% which is included in the "Good" category. Then, the percentage increase in students' initial reading skills also showed positive results, student 1 by 9.1%, student 2 by 9.6%, student 3 by 75.6%, student 4 by 8.2%, student 5 by 10.6%, student 6 by 79.5%, student 7 by 100%, and student 8 by 84.4%. This shows that the UTAKU game learning media (Snakes and Ladders Cards) is appropriate to use and can improve the beginning reading skills of first grade elementary school students.
