Abstract
The low mathematical literacy of Indonesian students based on the results of the 2018 PISA survey results in the need for improvement efforts to support mathematical literacy, one of which is through the learning process. This study aims to determine the achievement and increase in mathematical literacy of junior high school students after obtaining the Problem-Based Learning learning model and student responses to learning number patterns with the Problem-Based Learning learning model. This research is a quasi-experimental research design. The population in this study were all eighth-grade junior high school students at one of the state junior high schools in Bandung. The sample in this study was grade VIII-2 as the experimental group and grade VIII-3 as the control group. From this study it can be concluded that: 1) Statistically the achievement of mathematical literacy of students who receive Problem-Based Learning model learning is higher than students who receive Direct Instruction model learning; 2) Statistically, the increase in the mathematical literacy of students who got the Problem-Based Learning model is higher than the students who get the Direct Instruction model; 3) Overall, the average of student response to learning number patterns with the Problem Based Learning model is 78.21, included in the positive category.
