Abstract

Berdasarkan observasi awal di salah satu SMP swasta di Kabupaten Garut Provinsi Jawa Barat, diperoleh bahwa hasil belajar matematika siswa dalam materi luas permukaan dan volume pada kubus serta balok rendah, terkhusus pada soal yang dihubungkan dengan kehidupan sehari-hari. Dengan demikian, perlu adanya penelitian mengenai kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa. Penelitiaan ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal HOTS berdasarkan prosedur Newman, dan membuat desain pembelajaran alternatif yang dapat meminimalkan kesalahan yang dilakukan. Metode yang digunakan yaitu pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa tes, wawancara, dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil olah data menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas VIII di tempat penelitian melakukan lima jenis kesalahan: 1) kesalahan membaca yaitu siswa tidak dapat memaknai maksud soal secara keseluruhan, dan tidak menuliskan satuan dengan benar; 2) kesalahan memahami yaitu siswa tidak menuliskan setiap informasi inti yang terdapat pada soal; 3) kesalahan transformasi yaitu siswa tidak memahami konsep penggunaan rumus luas permukaan dan volume pada kubus serta balok untuk menyelesaikan soal; 4) kesalahan proses yaitu siswa tidak dapat menyelesaikan proses perhitungan, perhitungan tidak tepat, dan tidak menuliskan satuan yang digunakan; dan 5) kesalahan pada penulisan jawaban akhir yaitu siswa tidak menuliskan kesimpulan, dan kesimpulan siswa tidak tepat. Desain pembelajaran alternatif dibuat dengan prediksi berdasarkan indikator kesalahan Newman. Guru dapat mengimplementasikan desain pembelajaran alternatif sebagai upaya untuk meminimalkan kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa. Kata Kunci: Soal HOTS, bangun ruang sisi datar, prosedur Newman, desain pembelajaran Based on initial observations at a private junior high school in Garut, West Java, it was found that students' mathematics learning outcomes in the material of surface area and volume on cubes and cuboids are relatively low, especially in questions related to everyday life. Thus, there is a need for research on errors made by students.This study aims to describe the errors made by students in solving HOTS questions based on the Newman procedure and to create alternative learning designs that can minimize errors made. The method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of tests, interviews, and documentation studies. The results of this study showed that class VIII students at the research site made five types of errors: 1) reading errors, namely students could not interpret the meaning of the question as a whole and did not write down the units correctly; 2) misunderstanding, that is, students do not write down every core information contained in the questions; 3) transformation errors, namely students do not understand the concept of using the formula for surface area and volume on cubes and blocks to solve problems; 4) process errors, namely students cannot complete the calculation process, calculations are not appropriate, and do not write down the units used; and 5) errors in writing the final answer, namely students did not write conclusions, and students' conclusions were not correct. An alternative learning design is made with predictions based on the Newman error indicator. Teachers can implement alternative learning designs in an effort to minimize errors made by students.
