Abstract
Kemampuan numerasi merupakan kemampuan dasar yang harus dimiliki peserta didik untuk berpikir logis dan sistematis. Kenyataannya, berdasarkan studi pendahuluan yang telah dilakukan di SD, ditemukan adanya permasalahan bahwa kemampuan numerasi peserta didik khususnya pada materi pecahan masih perlu ditingkatkan, karena masih belum sesuai dengan yang diharapkan. Kurangnya media pembelajaran menjadi salah satu penyebabnya, selain itu peserta didik kurang didorong untuk menemukan sendiri konsep materi yang didipelajari. Penting bagi peserta didik untuk dapat memahami konsep secara langsung dengan memanipulasi objek yang konkret agar dapat menganalisis dan menetapkan cara menyelesaikan masalah dan menginformasikannya kepada orang lain dengan konsep matematis, karena hal tersebut dapat melatih dan meningkatkan kemampuan numerasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan media aplikasi PhET Simulations dalam meningkatkan kemampuan numerasi peserta didik SD terkait materi pecahan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent control group. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 44 peserta didik kelas IV pada satu SD berakreditasi A di Kota Bekasi dengan masing-masing 22 peserta didik kelas eksperimen dan 22 peserta didik kelas kontrol. Data yang didapat dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari pre-test dan post-test untuk kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol, serta dari angket respon peserta didik kelas eksperimen setelah diberikan perlakuan. Analisis data menggunakan uji hipotesis kasus dua sampel berpasangan, uji hipotesis kasus dua sampel independen, dan uji hipotesis kasus tiga sampel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada pembelajaran matematika materi pecahan, penerapan media aplikasi PhET Simulations dapat meningkatkan kemampuan numerasi peserta didik kelas IV. Penerapan PhET Simulations memberikan pengaruh yang lebih tinggi terhadap kemampuan numerasi. Pada kelas eksperimen, PhET Simulations memberikan pengaruh yang sama terhadap kemampuan numerasi kelompok peserta didik berdasarkan kemampuan akademik dalam matematika. ----- Numerical skills is a basic ability that students must have to think logically and systematically. In fact, based on preliminary studies that have been carried out in elementary schools, it was found that there was a problem that students' numeracy skills, especially in fractional material, still needed to be improved, because they were still not as expected. The lack of learning media is one of the causes, besides that students are less encouraged to find their own concepts of the material being studied. It is important for students to be able to understand concepts directly by manipulating concrete objects in order to analyze and determine how to solve problems and inform others with mathematical concepts, because this can train and improve numeracy skills. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using the PhET Simulations application media in improving the numeracy skills of elementary school students related to fractions. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample of this study amounted to 44 fourth grade students in an A-accredited elementary school in Bekasi City with 22 students in the experimental class and 22 students in the control class. The data obtained in this study were obtained from the pre-test and post-test for the experimental class and control class, as well as from the questionnaire responses of the experimental class students after being given treatment. Data analysis used two-sample paired case hypothesis testing, two-sample independent case hypothesis testing, and three-sample case hypothesis testing. The results showed that in learning mathematics with fractions, the application of the PhET Simulations application media could improve the numeracy skills of fourth grade students. The application of PhET Simulations has a higher impact on numeracy skills. In the experimental class, PhET Simulations gave the same effect on the numeracy skills of the group of students based on academic ability in mathematics.
