Abstract

The reality in field shows that Science learning process and outcome in elementary school has not fulfilled quality of learning expected as according to curriculum demand. In term of learning process, Science subject in elementary school is unable to develop students’ ability in thinking critically and systematically. Students also unable to apply Science concept in daily life, because of thinking learning strategy is not applied well in learning process. Learning process has not emphasized on providing direct experience and practical activity to develop students’ competency in order able to comprehend the nature scientifically. The existing Science learning has not shown optimal result expected. The problem in this study is how should Learning which can improve students’ mastery in applying Science concept such that learning model, learning implementation, and learning evaluation. The aim of this study is to find LCM form as alternative of learning model which can improve students’ mastery in applying Science concept. The approach study is used Research and Development by modified ten steps of research strategy implementation into three steps of research as follows, introduction research, model development, and model validation test. Subjects of this study are teachers and students of elementary school in Bengkulu City. Data collection techniques are used observation, questionnaire, interview, and test. Research data are analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative analysis (statistical test). Result of data analysis shows that Learning Cycle Model (LCM) consists of seven learning phase (competency explanation, orientation and motivation, exploration, explanation, exercise, concept application, and evaluation). Based on data processing toward pretest and posttest scores difference in experiment and control group, it is found that the use of LCM is effectively in improving students’ mastery in applying Science concept. One of the implication of this study is the LCM model emphasize students’ activity in learning process. The activity done based on student experience will yield study which more haves a meaning for students, so that students can applying concept in daily life easily. Starting from the result hence recommended for teacher, headmaster, and On Duty Education to use this learning model as one of science alternative of learning model in Elementary School. For LPTK, it is recommended this model to be catered for teacher’s candidate
