Abstract
The present study aims to find out the effect of resilience on Social Problem Solving skill, particularly the problem solving style, among adolescents in Bandung City. To this end, a quantitative correlational design was applied. This study involved 403 high school students in Bandung City as participants, recruited using simple random sampling technique. The Resilience Scale for Children and Adolescent (RSCA) developed by Prince-Embury and used by Puspitaningrum and Pudjianti was used ( r= 0.90 for sense of mastery and emotional reactivity, r= 0.91 for sense of relatedness). Social Problem Solving instrument was developed based on the theoretical construct developed by D’Zurrilla (r= 0.91 for Rational Problem Solving and r= 0.78 for Impulsive/Carelessness Style and Avoidant Style). The data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The resilience in this study was measured based on vulnerability index, showing a significant effect on each problem solving style scale. Resilience was found to positively affect the rational problem-solving by 13.4%. Resilience was also found to negatively affect the impulsive/carelessness and avoidant styles by 9% and 20%, respectively.
