Abstract

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) merupakan kompetensi yang wajib dimiliki siswa, terlebih pada abad ke-21. Soal HOTS perlu dilatih secara berkala agar siswa terbiasa untuk memberdayakan potensi berpikirnya pada level menganalisis, mengevaluasi dan mencipta. Namun ditemukan bahwa soal-soal yang diujikan pada sebagian besar lembaga pendidikan di Indonesia hanya berada pada kategori mengingat dan memahami. Akibatnya, siswa kesulitan menyelesaikan soal HOTS. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jenis beserta penyebab kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal HOTS himpunan yang ditinjau berdasarkan analisis kesalahan Newman. Desain penelitian yang digunakan ialah studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 6 siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Sukaraja. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa seluruh kategori kesalahan Newman dilakukan oleh siswa dengan jenis kesalahan transformasi yang paling banyak ditemukan. Faktor penyebab kesalahan siswa diantaranya: 1) kurang teliti dalam membaca soal, 2) tidak dapat memahami keseluruhan informasi dan perintah soal, 3) melewatkan sebagian informasi penting pada soal, 4) tidak menguasai konsep operasi himpunan, 5) tidak menguasai konsep diagram Venn, 6) ceroboh dalam perhitungan, 7) lupa melanjutkan prosedur, 8) tergesa-gesa mengerjakan soal, 9) minat belajar yang menurun selama pembelajaran daring, 10) tidak suka mengulang materi ataupun berlatih soal di luar jam pelajaran, 11) merasa malu dan takut untuk bertanya, 12) kondisi kesehatan yang kurang baik saat mengerjakan soal, 13) sinyal internet kurang mendukung saat pembelajaran melalui konferensi video, 14) tidak terbiasa mengerjakan soal HOTS, 15) situasi di Rumah yang kurang kondusif untuk belajar. Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) are competencies that must be possessed by students, especially in the 21st century. HOTS problem need to be trained regularly so students are used to empowering their thinking potential at the level of analyzing, evaluating and creating. However, it was found that the questions tested at most school in indonesia were only in category of remembering and understanding. As a result, students have difficulty to solve HOTS questions. This study aims to describe the types of student errors in solving HOTS problem on set material based on Newman method and their causal factors. This study uses qualitative approach, while the desain uses case study. Subject of this study were six students of 8th grade in SMPN 1 Sukaraja. This study found all types of Newman errors method were made by students with the most types is transformation error. Factors causing student errors were named: 1) inaccurate in reading question, 2) do not understand all of the information and instructions about the question, 3) missing some important information on the question, 4) not mastering the concept of set operations, 5) do not mastering the concept of Venn diagram, 6) careless in calculations, 7) forget to continue the procedure, 8) rushes to work on questions, 9) decreases interest in learning during online learning, 10) do not like to repeat material or practice some questions outside School, 11) feel embarrassed and afraid to ask some questions, 12) bad health condition when working on questions, 13) have internet issues when learning through video conferencing, 14) not used to working on HOTS questions, 15) the situation at home is not comfortable to learning.
