Abstract

The research purpose are to: 1) determine the effect of the problem based learning model on the geography skills of students; 2) knowing the effect of learning intensity on students' geography skills; 3) analyze comprehensively the differences in the geography skills of students between those who get the problem based learning model and the conventional model in terms of the overall students and the learning intensity (high, medium, low; 4) comprehensively analyze the interaction between problem based learning model learning and learning intensity (high, medium, low) on the geography skills of students. The research method is a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The independent variable is the problem based learning model, the moderator variable is the intensity of learning and the dependent variable is geography skills. 2x3 factorial design, data analysis using two way annova with the help of IBM SPSS 23.0. The research subjects were students of class X IPS 1 and X IPS 2 at SMAN 41 Jakarta, totaling 72 students. The results show that: 1) there is an effect of the problem based learning model on the geography skills of students; 2) there is an effect of learning intensity on students' geography skills; 3) there are differences in the geography skills of students between those who get the problem based learning model and the conventional model in terms of the total number of students and the intensity of learning (high, medium, low); 4) there is no interaction between the problem based learning model and the intensity of learning on geography skills. Recommendations that can be put forward: 1) teachers can use the problem based learning model because it is proven to have an effect on geography skills; 2) the need for cooperation between teachers and students to determine the intensity of learning and improve students' geography skills; 3) the need for a performance test of students' skills.
